Background / History
Valentina was born into the Harrington royal family as the legitimate daughter and first in line to inherit the kingdom. Her mother secretly prepared a safeguard for her: Valentina and her twin were “dual body, same soul,” with one body living openly while the other remained hidden until the main body died. The arrangement was meant to preserve her life during royal succession struggles. 83 84
Her royal position was undermined by the kingdom’s succession customs and by the Church’s treatment of her. She was given the Beast Listener characteristic and exiled from the center of power, while noble and Church factions treated her as politically expendable. 82 288
During her exile near Francis, Valentina was attacked alongside her uncle, Duke Adelaide. She attempted to flee in her winged ferocious tiger form, but the Pig-nosed Masked Man killed her main body after taking the Bracelet of Fate she offered as payment for her life. Her hidden subordinate body then emerged, though deprived of her powers. 82 83 84
The Pig-nosed Masked Man later resurrected her main body as an experiment. Believing him to be an angelic being who had deliberately freed her from exile and removed political obstacles, Valentina chose to abandon her former faith and align herself with him. She eventually learned to address him as the Man of Truth. 87 95 133
The Man of Truth used Valentina’s dual-body nature to summon and briefly revive her without exposing her subordinate body. In exchange for high-level characteristics and guidance on transcendence, she gathered intelligence on Harrington, the God of Dawn, and the Dawn Church. 133 134 152 153
Valentina killed the Old One known as the white worm with an ice blade supplied by the Man of Truth. The creature’s corrosive blood killed her body, but she subsequently revived through her secondary body. The experience of participating in godslaying profoundly altered her outlook, making ordinary noble intrigue seem insignificant beside divine power. 129 130 133
After consuming Court Dwarf, she joined Horace, Arthur, and the Man of Truth in drafting the sacred canon and framework of the Dawn Church. To conceal her identity in the canon, she received the pseudonym “King.” 190
Prince Luke’s coronation displaced Valentina from the succession. Devastated by the loss and by the withdrawal of support from her maternal relatives, she contemplated abandoning Harrington for the Northern Continent. The Man of Truth revealed that Demigod Besimer, rather than Luke alone, had engineered the succession struggle. Valentina resolved to challenge the new order and reclaim the throne, even if it required bringing down Besimer. 276 288 289
She later became Queen of Harrington. During the Green Tide crisis, she refused the Pope of Dawn’s expectation that she would lead Harrington’s people to the Northern Continent, choosing instead to remain with her kingdom. 424 535
Appearance
Valentina is an aristocratic woman whose usual poise remains evident even when she abandons court dress for practical clothing. During her exile, she wore simple hunting attire and moved with the agility of a hunter rather than a palace princess. 82
- Wears elegant royal gowns and formal court attire in Harrington. 93 276
- Has pale arms, butterfly-like eyelashes, and bright, star-like eyes. 84 276 288
- Can manifest brilliant white wings and a long tail before transforming into a winged ferocious tiger. 82
- Displays a composed, regal manner at court, even while privately distressed. 93 190
Personality
Valentina is ambitious, politically aware, and intensely determined to rule Harrington. Even after panic and near-death trauma, she repeatedly forces herself to regain composure and assess how to use her circumstances to advance her position. 84 87
She is highly prone to interpreting the Man of Truth’s actions as elaborate acts of protection or guidance. This admiration becomes devotion after her resurrection and the slaying of the white worm, though it also leaves her vulnerable to his manipulation. 95 133 134
Her ambition is matched by resilience. Losing the succession drives her into despair, but she quickly redirects that pain into a plan to challenge Luke’s rule and expose Besimer’s weakness. 288 289
