Background / History
Wen Jing was a university student studying ethnic culture and history when she entered Motuo during a research trip. Her academic background gave her practical knowledge of ancient ruins, murals, inscriptions, mythology, and archaeological identification. 64 334
She entered a hidden Motuo valley while seeking a Nuwa Stone that could restore the Wen Family's depleted Qi Count. There, a Yeti-like “God Slave” captured her and brought her to the Sacred Lotus Land, an ancient settlement controlled by a decaying old man who called himself Buddha. He kept dozens of women as concubines and commanded Yetis through incense. 225 333
Wen Jing initially resisted captivity, slapping away the old man's hand and attempting to leave the room where she woke. She later learned that escaping the Sacred Lotus Land could result in death at the hands of the God Slaves. 65
She repeatedly prepared to escape rather than submit. After studying the settlement for nearly a year, she identified it as a Ne Wo Clan site at least two thousand years old, but found no clear record of the Nuwa Stone she sought. 334
For her second major escape attempt, Wen Jing secretly stockpiled food and animal skins, made a cold-weather coat, and exploited the old man's allergy to Star Spot Grass to induce an asthma attack. The attempt failed when she was recaptured; as punishment, the old man gouged out one of her eyes. 333 334
Her reported time in captivity is inconsistent. When first rescued, she said she had lived in the Sacred Lotus Land for six years; later, she told Mo Li that she had been taken to the valley two years earlier. 64 225
Appearance
Wen Jing is a beautiful adult woman whose missing eye is usually covered by an eye patch. In casual clothing, she wears her long hair in a ponytail and can appear younger than her actual age. 223 246
- One eye was gouged out during her imprisonment in the Sacred Lotus Land. 66 334
- Her back bears extensive scratches, whip marks, and knife wounds from captivity. 66
- She has long hair, often tied into a ponytail. 223
- She was seen wearing a loose gray-black T-shirt, jeans, and black-and-red sneakers after reuniting with Mo Li. 223
- Following the Soul Tree incident, she was found emaciated, haggard, and wearing torn clothing after several days without proper food or water. 673 674
Personality
Wen Jing is resilient, cautious, and difficult to intimidate. Her first reaction to the old man's unwanted touch was open defiance, and years of captivity did not erase her determination to escape or retaliate against him. 65 333 334
Her trauma remains severe: recounting her punishment and lost eye causes her to break down, and she temporarily finds safety in Zhong Lichun's comfort. Nevertheless, she continues functioning under pressure and repeatedly protects others despite injury or exhaustion. 66 136 145
As head of the Wen Family, Wen Jing is driven by responsibility for her clan's survival. This responsibility can make her pragmatic and morally uncompromising; she prioritizes obtaining the Nuwa Stone even when doing so may conflict with Huang Hu Village's interests. 226 315 377
Abilities & Skills
Firearms Proficiency
Wen Jing is an unusually capable marksman, particularly under dangerous conditions.
- Accurately shot multiple fast-moving beasts in a dim cave while using a rifle one-handed despite an injured arm. 136
- Killed two pursuing beasts in a narrow tunnel, using their bodies to delay the rest of the pack. 137
- Her steady aim and tolerance for recoil led Wei Dengke to question whether her original civilian background explained all of her abilities. 136 143
- Her injured arm can limit her performance; she could draw a bow only briefly before it began trembling. 145
Tactical Survival
Wen Jing remains composed in confined, hostile environments and improvises with available materials.
- Proposed and carried out defensive measures while escaping beasts with Wei Dengke. 136 137
- Used a general's knife to cut a wolf skin into useful material while stranded on an isolated platform. 139
- Maintained a defensive posture against Big Beard while Zhong Lichun and Wei Dengke were unconscious from poison. 145 148
- Scouted dangerous passages alone to prevent Luo Qianqian and the others from walking into hazards. 313
Archaeology and Mythological Knowledge
Her education and family training allow Wen Jing to interpret ancient sites and legends.
- Identified the Sacred Lotus Land as an ancient ruin immediately after seeing its building complex. 65
- Deduced that the Sacred Lotus Land had been a Ne Wo Clan settlement from at least two thousand years earlier. 334
- Recognized that separate groups in the Huang Hu Shrine were moving through different parallel spaces. 314
- Identified Lu Wu from its resemblance to the creature described in the Classic of Mountains and Seas. 683
- Explained legends surrounding the Queen Mother of the West and enormous divine bodies. 677
Leadership
Wen Jing commands loyalty from her associates and accepts personal risk for her team.
- Luo Qianqian and several trained men follow her orders during the Da Xing Ling operation. 223
- She chose to enter a dangerous light pillar alone rather than expose Sting and Gourd to the risk, though Sting entered ahead of her. 377
- She recruited Sting and Gourd for a paid expedition when she needed funds to support her younger brother. 512

- Sting — Wen Jing's distant cousin, raised by the Wen Family after his own family’s Qi Count declined. 301
- Gourd — Member of Wen Jing's party. Wen Jing attempts to leave him behind to guard Luo Qianqian rather than risk his life in the light pillar. 377
- Xiao Ying — Temporary ally inside the Huang Hu Shrine. The two exchange intelligence, cooperate through parallel-space trials, and Wen Jing helps bandage Xiao Ying's wrist. 314 316 376
- Big Beard — Distrusted temporary companion. Wen Jing holds him at bowpoint and later keeps him under armed guard while waiting for Zhong Lichun and Wei Dengke to recover. 145 148
- The Old Man of the Sacred Lotus Land — Former captor and abuser. Wen Jing's hatred of him stems from years of imprisonment, repeated punishments, and the loss of her eye. 66 333 334
