Background / History

Kunpeng was the Demon Clan’s Teacher of Ten Thousand Demons, a prestigious position beneath the Four Demon Emperors. Despite this standing, he was notoriously poor among Quasi-Saints and lacked even a suitable magic treasure, motivating him to pursue Lu Changsheng’s Merit Supreme Treasures. 3 5

He initially joined Che Qi in confronting Lu Changsheng, assuming that a late-stage Grand Unity Golden Immortal could not threaten a late-stage Quasi-Saint. The display of thousands of Golden Wheels of Merit, followed by Che Qi’s death under Heavenly Tribulation, convinced Kunpeng that attacking Lu Changsheng would invite disaster. 3 4

Lu Changsheng instead offered to hire him as a mount. Kunpeng rejected an initial offer of 10,000 Merit per thousand years but immediately accepted one million Merit per thousand years, making a Heavenly Dao Oath and departing the Demon Clan Heavenly Court with his new master. 4 5

At Wuji Heaven, Kunpeng became a trusted attendant. He announced Lu Changsheng’s Merit-for-treasures exchange across the Primordial World, managed inventories, refined Merit treasures, and later assisted in the creation of worlds. 10 11 15 47

Kunpeng once harbored a deep grudge against Hongyun, blaming him for the loss of his chance at sainthood and plotting to ambush him for his Primordial Violet Qi. After both entered Wuji Heaven, Kunpeng abandoned the plan; they later became fellow Saints and allies. 14 138 139

Appearance

Kunpeng can assume both a gigantic true form and a human form. His true form is a colossal bird-like demon whose wings and demonic wind can obscure the sky. 3 5

Kunpeng is pragmatic, materialistic, and highly conscious of opportunities. His initial attempt to rob Lu Changsheng stemmed from his poverty and desire for Merit treasures; once he understood Lu Changsheng’s wealth and Heavenly Dao protection, he abandoned hostility in favor of service. 3 4

He is openly envious of Merit and frequently struggles to watch Lu Changsheng spend it casually. After joining Wuji Heaven, however, Kunpeng develops a strong sense of pride in his master’s wealth and often mocks outsiders as ignorant of a “Great Master’s” life. 11 12 13
