The Black Death Emperor, Holding a Prompt Card, Was Using His Skull to Think

This was the dimension where the Black Death Emperor's true form resided. Since his true form could not enter the multiverse, he had no choice but to search for avatars in the material universe through which he could descend, such as William Hand—or Prime Universe Hal, who had once driven the Black Death Emperor and cleaved the First Lantern in half with a single stroke.

This was where all beings connected to the Emotional Spectrum went after death. These souls would sink into peaceful slumber within the Black Death Emperor's domain until one day they were resurrected and left this place, such as those dead who were revived by the White Lantern in Blackest Night.

Or they could return completely, utterly, to the ultimate death of all things, into the embrace of Death, the second eldest sister of The Endless.

Between row upon row of graves in the Land of the Dead, the Black Death Emperor, scythe in hand, raised his eyes. He had just been using his skull to think, recalling in his mind the deal he had made with his new favorite, William Hand from the Dark Multiverse.

That William Hand had convinced him. He was willing to carry out a plan William had proposed. If the plan succeeded, the Black Death Emperor might be able to directly seize control of Parallax Hal's body and then try to drag him into death.

Besides that, he could also inflict a portion of death's influence on Barbatos, infecting his life with his own power.

Ultimately, the Black Death Emperor's goal was to drag Barbatos into death. But even if he could not immediately turn him into a state of death, the attempt to influence him had not completely failed.
