Background / History
Origin and the World Forge
The World Forger is Perpetua's eldest son and the elder brother of the Monitor and Anti-Monitor. He and his brothers exposed Perpetua's intent to consume the Multiverse, leading to her defeat and imprisonment on the Source Wall. 654 735
His original duty was to forge universes in the World Forge. Worlds that failed to qualify for the Over-Time Stream were handed to Barbatos for destruction; this is why the Forger regarded the lives within his creations as disposable products rather than independent beings. 783 782
At some point, he arranged his apparent death and left a corpse in the World Forge for Barbatos to consume. His plan was for Barbatos to inherit his duties, fail, and create an opening for the World Forger to forge a new Over-Time Stream of his own. 654 918
The Convergence Scheme
Operating from beyond the Over-Time Stream while half-dead, the World Forger sought to weaken the existing Multiverse without releasing Perpetua. He selected a parallel-universe Brainiac as the opening pawn for a Convergence, manipulated Barbatos, and intended to exploit Doctor Manhattan's quantum power to alter more of the main universe's history. 654 658
He closely monitored Batman Dragon, whom he identified as an “immune cell” of the Over-Time Stream. Although the Dream Lord's access to Batman Dragon's dreams was a loophole in the Forger's surveillance, it also allowed him to learn that Batman Dragon intended to enter the World Forge. 706
To isolate his opponents, the World Forger manipulated events so that the Prime Universe Justice League was occupied by the Prophet. He then killed his current body, embraced Black Lantern power, seized Parallax Hal's body, paralyzed Barbatos, eliminated William Hand, captured Brainiac, and coerced the First Lantern into cooperation. 728
Forging an Infant Multiverse
The World Forger's ultimate objective was to replace the DC Multiverse with an infant multiverse of his own design. Initially, he intended to become its World Core himself because he could not create a suitable Superman-equivalent core. 736
His attempts to reshape or mentally control Prime Universe Superman failed: Superman's identity, will, and role as the Multiverse's core repeatedly reasserted themselves. The World Forger therefore sought alternatives, first attempting to extract the original Hero Day from the Over-Time Stream and later crafting a counterfeit Hero Day from multiversal energies and Superman's blood. 782 889
He used Fake Hero Day as a controlled spy and distraction against Batman Dragon. He also created a fake mother for the First Lantern, intending to use the replica to fulfill promises he could not genuinely keep. 783 788
The Forger eventually learned to give his creations fabricated histories that could deceive the Over-Time Stream. However, counterfeit worlds remained flawed because they lacked a truly coherent historical foundation. 783 983
Conflict with Batman Dragon and Supreme Superboy
The World Forger forged a treasure sword from Batman Dragon's crowbar to complete a closed historical loop, though he later hesitated to return it because it could aid Batman Dragon. 742 810
He equipped Prime Universe Batman with Sixth Dimension Armor to counter Batman Dragon and retrieve the sword. The armor was also meant to restrain Batman, bypassing the difficulty of directly controlling a Multiverse-protected “immune cell.” 855 856
After attempting to steal Crisis Energy from Supreme Superboy's Cosmic Tuning Fork, the World Forger accidentally fed energy into his infant multiverse and provoked Supreme Superboy into direct confrontation. He later persuaded Supreme Superboy to cooperate by offering to restore the Golden Age to his new multiverse. 866 871
Creation of Superman Chen Tao
Unable to permanently corrupt Prime Universe Superman, the World Forger created a secondary Superman personality named Chen Tao, shaped and brainwashed to be loyal to him. He separated this personality into a new teenage body made from Prime Universe Superman's flesh, blood, bones, and life force. 921
With Superman Chen Tao as its core, the infant multiverse became complete. The World Forger considered this achievement comparable in principle to Perpetua's creation of a multiverse, though far weaker in scale. 921
Rebellions and Later Survival
The World Forger's confidence in his total control over his creations proved misplaced. Fake Hero Day rebelled, joined with the Black Death Emperor, and used the World Forger's own corpse to restrain him. 918
During the conflict surrounding Perpetua, he attempted to capture Hero Day as a replacement World Core. Batman Dragon instead empowered Hero Day through manipulated history, turning the creation against his maker and forcing the World Forger back into the wider battle. 938
Supreme Superboy's punch reportedly killed the World Forger, and Batman Dragon used the World Forger's own forged sword to stop his attempted escape. His infant multiverse survived through an Over-Time Stream overdraft method. 948
He later reappeared severely weakened and clad in tattered armor. Alongside the Nameless Old Dragon, he sought to locate his infant multiverse and use it in a plan against the victorious Perpetua. 952 969
Appearance
The World Forger normally presents himself as a towering blue Sixth-Dimensional being. For much of the conflict, however, this appearance is an energy facade layered over the body of Parallax Hal, whom he possesses. 863
- His original body was left as a corpse in the World Forge and repeatedly gnawed upon by Barbatos. 654 918
- His Black Lantern-corrupted state is associated with Parallax Hal's skeletal form and black mist. 728
- After later defeats, he is described as weakened and wearing tattered armor. 952
- His revived corpse appears as a desaturated, deathly version of his blue form. 918
Personality
The World Forger is methodical, controlling, and intensely pragmatic. He prefers manipulation, historical preparation, and indirect control over open conflict, often treating people as pieces in a plan that he believes only he can properly understand. 654 728 863
His detachment extends to his creations: he considers artificial beings tools, assumes their obedience is guaranteed, and dismisses the possibility that they could develop free will. Hero Day's rebellion directly challenges this worldview. 782 783 918
He is also proud of his craftsmanship and ambition. Rather than merely copying the DC Multiverse, he wants his infant multiverse to have the potential to surpass it, even when doing so creates greater risks and imperfections. 938
Despite his arrogance, the Forger can be cautious when facing forces he cannot fully dominate. He recognizes Superman's resistance, fears the judgment of the Source Judges, and avoids directly overriding Prime Universe Batman's mind because doing so could trigger the Multiverse's retaliation. 782 863 866
Abilities & Skills
Sixth-Dimensional Creation
The World Forger can forge universes, manipulate multiversal energies, and create self-aware beings.
- Created universes for the World Forge, determining which could join the Over-Time Stream and which would be destroyed. 783
- Crafted Fake Hero Day from dark matter, positive matter, anti-matter, and Prime Universe Superman's blood. 782
- Created false histories and replicas, including Fake Hero Day and a false mother for the First Lantern. 783 788
- Created Superman Chen Tao as a separate life-form and the core of his infant multiverse. 921
- Cannot create a perfect counterfeit universe with a naturally coherent past history; this remains the central flaw in his imitations. 783 983
Over-Time Stream Manipulation
He can observe, alter, and exploit history across the Over-Time Stream.
- Views past actions as though replaying recordings, allowing him to trace Batman Dragon's movements and plans. 858
- Manipulates historical conditions to isolate the Justice League and guide events toward Convergence. 728
- Uses fabricated history to convince the Over-Time Stream that certain counterfeit beings belong within it. 783
- Can exploit the rules of historical overwrite, but cannot freely command those rules. 850
- His observation can be obstructed when another Sixth-Dimensional power conceals or disturbs history. 858
Possession and Black Lantern Control
After sacrificing his body, the World Forger became the “Greatest Black Lantern” and used Parallax Hal as a primary vessel.
- Possessed Parallax Hal after eliminating William Hand. 728
- Controlled Brainiac as a puppet and issued commands through him. 706 730
- Paralyzed and suppressed Barbatos, though he could not maintain absolute control over him indefinitely. 728 735
- Used Parallax Hal's body to strengthen the Anti-Monitor Dragon with anti-matter energy. 730
- Faced continued resistance from Parallax Hal's will and eventually lost control over him. 939
Mental Manipulation
The World Forger reads minds, alters memories, and imposes obedience through psychological or historical means.
- Reads Prime Universe Batman's thoughts and emotions to assess his loyalty. 855 863
- Controlled Fake Hero Day's body and memories, initially treating him as a disposable instrument. 782
- Failed to permanently rewrite Prime Universe Superman, whose personality and memories repeatedly returned. 889
- Used reverse psychology and selective memory-sharing to recruit Supreme Superboy. 871
- Cannot reliably control creations once their circumstances allow them to develop independent will, as demonstrated by Hero Day. 918
Combat Power
Even while weakened, the World Forger possesses overwhelming direct combat ability.
- Destroyed a fortified tower despite the Anti-Monitor's protection. 864
- Captured or defeated Brainiac, the Anti-Monitor Dragon, the First Lantern, Barbatos, and multiple members of Chen Tao's group. 728 888
- Can physically contend with Barbatos and Supreme Superboy, though both are capable of threatening him. 864 866
- Was seriously endangered after underestimating Barbatos and later suffered defeat at Supreme Superboy's hands. 946 948
