When a tool gains consciousness, is it still a tool?
Or, when a battery gains consciousness, is it still a battery?
I don't think so.
Before scissors were made, people had already decided what they were for. Therefore, the essence of scissors preceded their actual existence.
The essence of Hero Day as the World Forger's tool likewise preceded his existence. But when the World Forger granted Hero Day self-awareness, existence came to precede essence.
An intelligent life-form has no fixed purpose or mission. Everyone is free. Of course, that freedom also comes with responsibility for one's choices.
When a tool gains consciousness, it is no longer merely an appendage of an external function, nor does it exist solely to complete a certain task. He begins to reconsider his own essence.
For example, when a child is born, his parents might tell him, "You were born to support us in our old age."
But as the child grows up and gradually develops self-awareness, he may begin wondering whether he is really a human-shaped retirement fund.
Most people would rebel... Uh, but of course, some children with unusually strange ideas might reach the following conclusion:
That's right! I'm a human-shaped retirement fund!
But even that would still be the result of his free will.
However, Hero Day's situation differed from that of a free child.
Although he possessed free will, he could still be manipulated by the World Forger at any time. He was still an appendage of an external function.
In terms of will, his existence had already preceded his essence. Hero Day seemed able to define his own essence freely.
But in reality, his essence still preceded his existence. The World Forger didn't care in the slightest what Hero Day thought. Whenever he wanted, he could use this convenient tool
