Though compared to Hal, he identified more with Perpetua's view that everything in the multiverse was merely an image whose life and death could be crafted by hand, and that everything could be freely erased and revised.
But his heartfelt wish that Parallax Hal would not fail was also genuine, because Hal's failure often meant death. He wanted to find some way to have the best of both worlds—one that would neither leave him responsible for killing Parallax Hal nor affect his ability to bring back his entire world.
This was a battle taking place outside the reality of the Over-Time Stream. He absolutely could not let Parallax Hal's creations approach Perpetua, who was fighting Batman Dragon, even half a step. Otherwise, it would be a complete failure.
Once Perpetua could no longer maintain those realities, her own power would be weakened along with their disappearance.
