Background / History
Supreme Superboy survived a universal reset and was subsequently imprisoned on the Source Wall. He endured an indeterminate number of later resets while remaining conscious on its surface, losing his sense of time but retaining rage over the destruction of his world. He regarded the heroes of newer worlds as inherently flawed substitutes for the world he had lost. 282
His remembered history includes fighting the Anti-Monitor alongside heroes during the Infinite Earths Crisis, attempting to restart the Prime Universe during Infinite Crisis, and later joining Sinestro's attempt to conquer Earth. After surviving the Guardians' self-destruction, he destroyed Earth-15, fought Monarch on Earth-51, and was sent to the 31st century by the Time Trapper. 764
His history is unstable within the Over-Time Stream. The Source Wall version encountered by Chen Tao appeared to have skipped major portions of the life that another version should have lived, including events between Infinite Crisis and his later Source Wall imprisonment. 493 The Time Trapper is also tied to Supreme Superboy as a possible future identity or divergent historical branch. 420 577 860
Appearance
Supreme Superboy normally appears as a teenage Kryptonian in a red-and-blue Superman costume with a red cape. His adolescent appearance was permanently fixed after he received antimatter energy during Infinite Crisis. 325 846
- His eyes glow red while enraged or using heat vision. 298 557
- The World Forger forcibly altered him into a taller, more muscular adult form by rewriting his history; Supreme Superboy violently rejected the transformation. 846 849
- His monkey persona manifests as a separate monkey head and spine emerging from his body. 495 515
- In monkey form, his original costume was destroyed, leaving him without his usual uniform until Chen Tao created replacement clothing for him. 812
Personality
Supreme Superboy considers himself the true hero and views the heroes of the present age as defective imitations. His overriding ambition is to restore or restart reality into the “perfect” Golden Age world he believes was stolen from him. 294 493 773
He is intensely idealistic, but that idealism becomes destructive when paired with grief, rage, and absolute certainty in his own judgment. He can dismiss present-day lives as temporary or false because he believes they will be restored after a reboot; nevertheless, he generally does not wish to deliberately massacre uninvolved civilians. 794 797
His moral restraint remains a point of internal conflict. He hesitates when confronted with reminders of his past, fears becoming the Time Trapper through acts of great evil, and rejects attempts to overwrite his identity—even when those attempts claim to help him. 803 846 860 865
Abilities & Skills
Kryptonian Physiology
Supreme Superboy possesses the abilities of a Silver Age Superman and is described as one of the closest Superman variants to perfection. 262 301
- Overwhelming physical strength; he destroyed Kanto with a single punch, tore Mantis apart, and repeatedly overpowered Darkseid. 298 314
- Flight and combat speed sufficient to pursue or rapidly reposition against cosmic-level opponents. 301 314
- Heat vision powerful enough to overpower Darkseid's Omega Beams and devastate his surroundings. 301
- Super-breath capable of instantly freezing a vast area. 298
- Rapid healing; his injuries begin recovering even during combat. 326
- A powerful biological field that can extend through flesh reshaped into his monkey persona. 515
Solar Empowerment and Weaknesses
Yellow sunlight restores his strength, with even minimal exposure reactivating his atrophied cells and returning roughly 60% of his peak power. 495
- Prime Universe Kryptonite is his critical weakness and can physically weaken and bind him. 262 495
- Red sunlight is his other known weakness, though it has only a negligible weakening effect on him. 262 495
Mental and Magical Resistance
Supreme Superboy is extraordinarily difficult to manipulate through conventional mental control or magic. 272 490
- He is immune to the Red Lantern Ring's direct control. 296
- He can resist deliberate attempts to seize his mind when he is alert to them. 495
- His exceptional magic resistance makes magical infection or restraint far less effective than against most Superman variants. 272
- His resistance can be circumvented indirectly by exploiting emotions, traumatic memories, physical weakness, or alterations to his own history. 301 496 846
Rage Amplification
Blood Butcher Bull, the embodiment of rage, can empower Supreme Superboy because its influence is interpreted by his body as a beneficial enhancement. 301
- The amplification dramatically increases his strength and heat vision. 301
- It causes hallucinations that exploit his grief for Laurie, his lost family, and his destroyed home. 301
- The resulting berserk state is difficult even for Chen Tao to direct reliably. 496
Temporal and Reality Resistance
Supreme Superboy can resist timeline changes and universal resets when his will opposes them. 516
- He survived a universe reset and remained conscious through repeated later resets on the Source Wall. 282
- He can break free from a single-universe timeline reset if he rejects its outcome. 516
- His battle with the Time Trapper produced temporal paradoxes; in one outcome, his refusal to become the Time Trapper erased that identity from the timeline. 420
- A strike against the Prime Universe's overlapping timeline threads caused the Over-Time Stream to tremble and preceded the timeline's restoration. 820 823 871
Cosmic Tuning Fork and Crisis Energy
Supreme Superboy temporarily controlled the Cosmic Tuning Fork through stored Crisis Energy, using it as part of his plan to restart the Multiverse. 860 866
- He intended to use Barbatos and Crisis Energy to generate enough power for a complete multiversal reboot. 773 866
- Losing the Tuning Fork's stored Crisis Energy greatly weakened his ability to control both the artifact and Barbatos. 866
- The World Forger's attempt to steal this energy triggered Supreme Superboy's direct confrontation with him. 866
Monkey Persona and Spinal Cord Sword
Chen Tao used the power of The Red to create a monkey-headed sub-personality from Supreme Superboy's own body. 495 515
- The monkey persona can take control after suppressing Supreme Superboy's original consciousness. 496
- Its severed head, spine, and ribs can be wielded as a biological “Spinal Cord Sword” carrying Supreme Superboy's biological field. 515
- Chen Tao used the weapon to intercept Mogo's attacks and direct Supreme Superboy against Mogo and General Zod. 515
- The monkey history later became an alternate temporal identity that interfered with attempts to turn Supreme Superboy into the Time Trapper. 797 801
- Supreme Superboy eventually regained his human form when the monkey persona faded. 819
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Cosmic Tuning Fork — Temporarily controlled through Crisis Energy; central to his plan to restart the Multiverse. 773 860 866
- Spinal Cord Sword — A weapon formed from the monkey persona's head and spinal structure rather than conventional equipment. 515
Relationships
- Chen Tao / Batman Dragon — Repeated manipulator, captor, enemy, and temporary ally. Chen Tao tried to weaponize Supreme Superboy against Darkseid, the Anti-Monitor, and other threats, while Supreme Superboy repeatedly rejected Chen Tao's control and ultimately turned against him. 301 496 853
- Darkseid — A frequent opponent whom Supreme Superboy brutally overwhelmed on Apokolips. Darkseid initially helped facilitate attempts to restrain him but later became a target of his rage. 301 314 496
- Anti-Monitor — Responsible for the destruction of Supreme Superboy's home and loved ones; Supreme Superboy relentlessly attacked him despite attempts at negotiation. 557
- Time Trapper — A possible future self or divergent historical counterpart. Their battle became central to the struggle over Supreme Superboy's identity and fate. 420 577 794
- Hero Day — A friend during Supreme Superboy's monkey period. Hero Day's pleas can make Supreme Superboy hesitate, and Supreme Superboy promised not to forget their friendship when returning to human form. 819 865
- Dumb Owl — A planner who sought to use Supreme Superboy as the Flashpoint timeline's cornerstone and later proposed restoring his monkey history. Supreme Superboy killed him to obtain his essence. 764 846 853
- World Forger — Attempted to alter Supreme Superboy's body, memories, and history into a more controllable form. Supreme Superboy resisted the overwrite and later fought him over stolen Crisis Energy. 846 866
- Superboy Conner Kent — One of the heroes historically associated with Supreme Superboy's defeat and Source Wall imprisonment; Conner was also used as a target to provoke Supreme Superboy's rage. 296 763
- The Batman Who Laughs — Attempted to merge Supreme Superboy with the Time Trapper and corrupt the meaning of Superman's symbol through mass slaughter. His scheme was derailed by the monkey-history divergence. 797 801
Story Role / Major Arcs
Source Wall Imprisonment
Chen Tao initially considered releasing Supreme Superboy to fight Darkseid, but quickly judged him too dangerous to trust or control. Supreme Superboy remained trapped on the Source Wall, waiting for an opportunity to return and destroy those he blamed for his loss. 257 262 282 294
Apokolips Rampage
Chen Tao exploited Supreme Superboy's rage with Blood Butcher Bull's possession and hallucinations. In his berserk state, Supreme Superboy annihilated Darkseid's elite, overwhelmed Darkseid himself, and fought through the Black Racer's intervention. 298 301 314
Manipulation and the Monkey Persona
Chen Tao used Prime Universe Kryptonite, emotional manipulation, and The Red to impose a monkey-headed sub-personality on Supreme Superboy. The resulting dual-headed being was used as a weapon, but his original consciousness continued resisting the control. 495 496 515
Anti-Monitor Conflict and Exile
Driven by grief for his destroyed world, Supreme Superboy attacked the Anti-Monitor with enough persistence that the Anti-Monitor sought Barbatos's aid to banish him into the Dark Multiverse. Supreme Superboy later reappeared from the Over-Time Stream after losing his Purple Lantern Ring. 557 572
Flashpoint and Time Trapper Battle
Dumb Owl brought a Final Crisis-era Supreme Superboy into the Flashpoint timeline to serve as its cornerstone. Supreme Superboy fought the Time Trapper while pursuing the power needed to restore the Golden Age, but this conflict exposed the possibility that he could become the Time Trapper through his own atrocities. 764 794 860
Supreme Superboy Monkey
Chen Tao's interference transformed the Time Trapper corruption attempt into a monkey-history rewrite. Supreme Superboy became Supreme Superboy Monkey, resisted the transformation only briefly, then escaped Chen Tao's control and formed a bond with Hero Day before eventually returning to human form. 801 803 819
Prime Universe Superman and World Forger Conflict
After gaining significance as a possible Prime Universe Superman, Supreme Superboy attempted to mediate between Chen Tao and the Anti-Monitor and proposed restoring the Prime Universe timeline with a single punch. The World Forger then tried to overwrite his identity, prompting Supreme Superboy to tear apart his own changing body rather than accept external control. 820 846 849
Supreme Superboy later abandoned the Prime Universe Superman role after his restart plan failed, directing his rage toward the World Forger's infant multiverse. He was ultimately recorded as dead, leaving no remaining place for himself in the DC Multiverse's stories. 872 995
