Background / History

Mo Hua first meets him through Wenren Wan, addressing him as “Uncle Gu.” Though Gu Changhuai responds politely, he is immediately suspicious of the unusually perceptive child. Wenren Wan describes him as good-hearted but youthful, frivolous, solitary, and proud 585.

He later becomes a Chief Inspector of the Ganxue Prefecture Dao Court Office. His work centers on investigating and arresting Sinful Cultivators, though he is frequently frustrated by the office's bloated administration, political pressures, and corruption 617 801 853.

Before reaching Golden Core, Gu Changhuai nearly killed the notorious Fire Buddha. He wounded Fire Buddha's heart meridians and killed several of his associates, but Fire Buddha escaped after killing several of Gu Changhuai's former comrades. The loss left Gu Changhuai with a lasting grudge against him 651.

Even his relatives criticize him for bringing his Dao Court Office manner back into the Gu Family residence 585 660 829.

Beneath this aloof exterior, he is principled and protective. He takes dangerous cases seriously, warns inexperienced disciples away from threats they cannot handle, and repeatedly prioritizes Mo Hua's safety despite his suspicions about him 617 633 645. He is uncompromising in enforcing Dao Law, even when powerful clans threaten retaliation 710.

His relationship with Mo Hua gradually softens his demeanor. Gu Changhuai remains wary of Mo Hua's secrets and manipulative tendencies, but comes to rely on his deductions, protect him in battle, and treat him as family 815 905 1501.
