Background / History
Wen Zhong is Yin Shang's Grand Tutor, a trusted minister and the dynasty's foremost military pillar. As a third-generation disciple of the Intercepting Sect under Golden Spirit Holy Mother, he combines immortal cultivation with command of Shang's armies. 18 20
For years, he led the Northern Sea campaign against Yuan Futong and the seventy-two rebel lords. His repeated advances were delayed by Western Teachings cultivators who used wind, fog, and confinement formations to obstruct his army without openly slaughtering it. 18 19
After tiring of the stalemate, Wen Zhong concealed his true strength and targeted the enemy cultivators directly. He severely wounded Alms-Bowl Arhat with his Heavenly Eye and pursued him for a killing blow, prompting Dragon-Subduing to intervene. 19 Dragon-Subduing's Conversion and Salvation briefly clouded Wen Zhong's mind, but Wen Zhong turned the technique back on him with the Human Dao Heavenly Eye and Supreme Clarity Divine Thunder, leaving Dragon-Subduing gravely injured. 20
Maitreya subsequently froze Wen Zhong and attempted to capture him, only for Kong Xuan to disperse the attack with the Five-Colored Divine Light. Wen Zhong accepted Kong Xuan's assistance, withdrew to reorganize his forces, and later led the ground assault during the final offensive. 20 21 22
During the decisive battle, Wen Zhong shattered Yuan Futong's command banner, breaking the rebels' morale and securing the Northern Sea's pacification. Di Xin ordered him to incorporate capable surrendered troops and bring the seventy-two territories under direct Yin Shang jurisdiction, with Kong Xuan remaining as support. 23
He returned to Chaoge in triumph, where Di Xin personally praised him as “Teacher” and recognized the hardships of the campaign. 41 He later agreed to help Kong Xuan recruit and register extraordinary individuals across Yin Shang for the Star-Gathering Pavilion. 42
While accompanying Kong Xuan in Wuyi Mountain, Wen Zhong opposed Kong Xuan's intent to kill Xiao Sheng and Cao Bao for the Treasure-Dropping Golden Coin. He placed himself between them, insisting that anyone within Human Race territory must obey its laws—even Kong Xuan. 45 46
