Background

Han Chen awakens as Di Xin during a Shang court session and rapidly realizes that he has entered the period preceding the Investiture of the Gods tribulation. Knowing the original fate of King Zhou, he concludes that the planned incense offering at Nuwa Palace is part of a scheme against the Human Race. 1

Before visiting Nuwa Palace, Di Xin worships at the Three Sovereigns Hall and declares his intent to preserve the Human Race's destiny, independence, land, and dignity. His appeal reaches the Three Sovereigns, who recognize the danger surrounding Yin Shang. 1

At Nuwa Palace, Di Xin invokes the Kongtong Seal through the luck of the Human Race when a Daoist attempts to manipulate him into offending Nuwa. The Seal manifests the Three Sovereigns, Five Emperors, and a dragon formed from Human Race destiny, establishing Di Xin as a Human King willing to confront even a Saint-backed plot. 2 3

Di Xin is a young man who ordinarily appears in formal Human King regalia: black royal robes embroidered with golden-edged Black Birds and a crown hung with jade pendants. 1

Di Xin is calculating, proactive, and unwilling to accept the predetermined downfall of Yin Shang. Rather than waiting for the great tribulation to unfold, he attempts to seize its key variables—Kong Xuan, Nezha, Li Jing, Yang Jian, and the Human Race's destiny—and use them against the forces manipulating Shang. 5 17 23 29

His ambition is explicitly centered on human supremacy: he seeks a world in which Heaven belongs to the Heavenly Court, Earth belongs to the Underworld, and the Human Race stands supreme between them. He is willing to provoke Saints and alter established destiny in pursuit of that goal. 17
