Background / History
Ji Shu entered the Painted World through the Wall Painting world after first improving his cultivation. He subdued Haitang and encountered the celestial maiden Peony, then explored the realm with Shaoyao and Peony as guides. 277 279
The realm was originally hidden across four murals in a temple. After Ji Shu refined the Living Spring Source, he discovered that the murals formed one painting and that Auntie's Scepter was its scroll axis. He recovered the murals into a lightweight scroll containing the entire Lesser World. 280
The Painted World's original inhabitants, including Shaoyao and Peony, are spirits born from the world. Their true forms are immortal herbs; without the Painted World sustaining them, they and its vegetation rapidly wither and dissipate outside it. 280
Ji Shu later transformed it from a contained Lesser World into a growing supreme treasure by integrating divine weapons, structures, rare resources, captured cultivators, gods, Buddhas, and their true spirits. 362 363 428 450 469

- Residents who have achieved True Spirit Merges with Dao grant permanent increases to the world's tier. 589
Concealment and Divine Concealment
When worn by Ji Shu, the Painted World serves as an exceptionally potent cloak.
- Incorporates the Jade Hairpin and Milky Way's isolating power, Haotian Mirror's scanning ability, and Prayer Beads' heavenly-secret concealment. 364
- Combined with Ji Shu's techniques, it hid him from temple monks despite close proximity. 364
- Its concealment improved after it absorbed aquatic forces and treasures. 380
- After Vishnu joined its Heavenly Dao, Ji Shu could appear like a silent wisp of clear wind while wearing it. 469
- At a later stage, its Divine Concealment prevents cultivators of the same level from detecting Ji Shu. 513
Refining and Manifestation
The Painted World can serve as both a treasure-refining medium and a source of manifested tools.
- The essence of Divine Brush Ma Liang was integrated into it, granting it the ability to paint divine objects and magic treasures at Ji Shu's will. 362
- It can function as a Heaven and Earth Furnace for treasure refinement. 432
- It absorbed the Divine Barrier Smoke Light and Seven-Colored Yellow Sand, allowing these effects to be deployed from the world. 431 432
- It contains the Mystic Fire Mirror space, where Solar True Fire can burn imprisoned Nascent Souls. 469
- It can become invisible and function as an Investiture of the Gods-like artifact. 450
Defense and Imprisonment
The Painted World is both a sanctuary and a containment space.
- Captured enemies may be bound, suppressed, or integrated into its Heavenly Dao. 368 428
- Its Mystic Fire Mirror prison can incinerate Nascent Souls below the Immortal or Buddha level and severely threaten ordinary Immortals and Buddhas. 469
- Refinement with Chaos Qi and World Qi raised its defense, offense, stealth, and trapping functions to the level of powerful Innate Magic Treasures. 564
- Its tier rises while residents remain inside, though ordinary residents' contribution decreases if they leave. 589

- The Painted World was originally associated with Divine Brush Ma Liang, who had previously been its protagonist and controller. 282
- Ji Shu remains cautious about relying on it against stronger worlds, since he initially did not know whether the Journey to the West World's Tathagata Buddha could destroy it. 364
