As Evan gradually emerged from that profound state and regained his senses, he discovered that his consciousness had arrived in a vast, desolate, ruined expanse.
As far as the eye could see, the entire field of vision was filled with boundless rainforest.
Evan easily recognized that most of the vegetation here consisted of species commonly found along the shores of the "Golden Sea," originating from the regions where the Kuma Empire had once mainly flourished.
More than that, this rainforest was dotted with flat-topped pyramids of all sizes, as well as numerous "Natural Wells" that had served as water sources.
Everything looked just as it had when the Kuma People once lived here.
And yet.
More than half of the once-lush, species-rich rainforest had withered away. The "Natural Wells" had dried up like desert pits, and even the pyramids that should have endured wind and rain stood mostly in ruins, some having collapsed outright.
He could even vaguely make out heaps of dry bones beneath the weeds—remains belonging to countless Atelian People who had once lived here.
Combined with the dim yellow radiance at the horizon, there was no doubt about it. This was clearly a dead sanctuary.
Evan stood atop the largest and best-preserved pyramid at the center of this sanctuary. Within it, an exceedingly dim divine light still circulated sluggishly.
