Background / History

The Bureau was established after the chaotic early eras of the Crossroads, when misaligned spacetime connections were stabilized into a unified whole. Much of the surviving record from before this stabilization was erased or lost; it did not yet exist 3,700 years before the present. 492 500

It has since become the Crossroads’ principal authority for the “unnatural” side of society, maintaining a jurisdiction that extends beyond the city through its position at a major spatial hub. 71 149

Operation “Adulthood”

Decades earlier, the Bureau investigated the emerging Otherworld later understood as “Fairy Tale.” Its initial investigation found no trace of the threat, and the Bureau first misidentified the Black Forest as the entirety of the phenomenon rather than one subset of a larger structure. 152

The subsequent deep-dive operation ended disastrously: the team entering the other space was almost entirely lost, the two survivors died shortly after returning, and an outbreak killed personnel and civilians before containment protocols sealed the affected facility. 152

Deep Divers

Deep divers are the Bureau’s highest-end field combatants. They are dispatched to environments that ordinary operatives cannot safely handle, including lethal Otherworlds, nightmares, alien planets, and encounters with major Entities. 70 152
