Background / History

The original Adams died during a mission when he was twenty-one. The Adams who continued serving the Blue White Society was a deliberately split backup personality, nearly identical to the original but unaware of his own origin. His exceptional case led the Society to establish rules requiring future split personalities to undergo separate member evaluations. 1042

Adams repeatedly used personality fragmentation as a containment tool. His first Xiu'er personality was created by Mental Distortion, while a later female Xiu'er infiltrated a Holder for three months, became the Holder's trusted lover, and enabled a bloodless apprehension once Adams's embedded “Member Instinct” reasserted control. The third Xiu'er was deliberately shaped as a complete Member-grade consciousness rather than a disposable disguise. 524 527

As a Best Metal Controller in the Bester Squad, Adams gained a reputation for meticulous manipulation, shameless tactics, and reliability under pressure. Despite his methods, Adams is deeply committed to containment and to his comrades. He treats Xiu'er as another self rather than a tool, and his ability to create replacement personalities reflects his determination that an “Adams” should continue serving even if he dies. 527

His willpower is unusually strong. He can identify subtle mental corruption, resist forbidden knowledge, and consciously fragment his own mind—though this same calculating ability becomes dangerous when Mental Distortion redirects his goals toward an obsession. 551 648 658
