Background / History

Chen Yuan was a Chen family collateral descendant, a disciple of Long Xiao Zhenren, and captain of the Special Operations Second Team. As a New Star-born martial artist, he looked down on the people of Ancestor Star as “natives” and treated their lives as expendable resources for raising North Sea’s martial-arts fortune. 52 71 183

He initially sought merit from Su Tu’s killing of a Xie Race member, only for Li Hu to prevent him from claiming credit. His resentment sharpened when Su Tu disrupted a plan in which Chen Yuan intended to sacrifice a local person to boost martial-arts luck. Chen Yuan tried to force Su Tu to kneel with mental power and martial intent, but Li Hu defeated him and compelled him to apologize. 30 70 71

After Su Tu’s public rise brought martial enthusiasm to North Sea without casualties, Chen Yuan lost both influence and opportunities. Seeking a route to retaliate, he bribed Director Wang with a fourth-tier technique for a training-camp instructor position and received first-sequence challenger authority through Director Lin’s intervention. 76 80

He used the training camp’s first assessment to set Su Tu against hundreds of martial artists, promising automatic advancement to anyone who defeated him. The apparent assessment was ultimately exposed as Lin Feiyang’s Mind Illusion Dream, leaving Chen Yuan humiliated and aware that he had been manipulated. 115 118

Following the death of Chen Daowen and Su Tu’s growing prominence, the Chen family expelled Chen Yuan, revoked his position, and prepared to erase his clan techniques and cultivation. Believing Su Tu’s death could restore his standing, Chen Yuan attacked him in public. Su Tu trapped him in a space where only physical combat was possible, extracted information on Xing Tian and the Chen family through Misdirection, then killed him. 181 184

Much later, Chen Yuan appeared as the leader of the Three Gods Sect and the Turbid World Divine Son. He had spent years reshaping the sect’s doctrine so that believers’ faith increasingly centered on his own conceptual existence rather than the Three Gods. 431 436 437

His stated aim was to exploit the conflict between the Three Gods and Great Extinction, devour the resulting power, and become a god capable of protecting humanity. After absorbing Bone Father and Blood Mother, he confronted Su Tu directly; Su Tu ultimately consumed and erased him with Great Extinction Power. 437 441

Personality

Chen Yuan was calculating, status-conscious, and deeply resentful. He valued merit, family standing, and personal advancement over the safety of others, regarding ordinary people as tools for political or martial gain. 52 71 80

He could restrain himself when confronting stronger forces, but this restraint was pragmatic rather than principled. His fear of Li Hu, Zhou Wuliang, and the Ten Heavens Martial Clan repeatedly checked his actions without changing his hostility toward Su Tu. 71 80 119

As leader of the Three Gods Sect, his ambition became far broader. He could endure for years, manipulate doctrine and faith, and sacrifice entire populations for godhood. He nevertheless retained an attachment to Liu Yingjiao and Chen Village, regarding her as the one person who should understand him. 437 441

Appearance

In his later appearance as the Three Gods Sect leader, Chen Yuan could present himself as an aging man with a cold, unfathomable demeanor; after his final scheme failed, he returned to a gentler-looking form that could be mistaken for a kind elder. 430 441

  • In his faith-empowered state, his skin cracked as blood-red totems spread across his body and a scarlet eye appeared between his brows. 437
  • He bore twisted patterns on his arms after receiving power from the Three Gods. 429
  • His god-like state was surrounded by violent flesh-and-blood power and a blood-red halo. 437 438
