Background
Ultraman is Earth-3's counterpart to Superman. Unlike his main-universe counterpart, he fears sunlight and obtains power from Kryptonite. He blocked sunlight from Metropolis and used his strength to pursue selfish rule rather than protect others. 406
Although nominally the Crime Syndicate's leader, its internal affairs were effectively directed by Night Owl through planning and violence. Ultraman's physical power nevertheless made him the Syndicate's most feared member. 408
Appearance
Ultraman wears a red cape and has heat vision that manifests as searing red beams. Solar exposure leaves his skin a sickly gray-green color. 406 407

Personality
Ultraman is ruthless, cruel, and destructive, favoring overwhelming force, heat vision, and brutality in battle. His willingness to harm others contrasts sharply with the restraint attributed to Superman. 406
Despite his arrogance against weaker opponents, he becomes terrified and submissive when exposed to his weakness. When Kara used solar radiation against him, he begged for mercy and offered to surrender rather than continue fighting. 406

Story Role / Major Arcs
Earth-3 Encounter
Ultraman encountered Kara in an Earth-3 graveyard and assumed she was a clone or another superpowered intruder. He initially overwhelmed her through superior strength and heat vision. 406
Kara revealed the miniature sun within her Nth Metal armor, exposing Ultraman to solar radiation. His powers failed, and his arrogance gave way to panic as he pleaded for his life. 406
Defeat and Replacement
Ultraman attempted to use Kryptonite against Kara, believing she shared his weakness. Her armor had been designed to resist Kryptonite, allowing her to overpower him and inject him with black liquid. Ultraman's body became ethereal and disappeared, with Kino emerging in his place. 407
Kino subsequently used Ultraman's identity to enter the Crime Syndicate, introduce Kara as “Supergirl,” and take control of the organization. 407 408
