Across this vast plain known as the lunar maria, ancient anorthosite highlands and impact craters stood out starkly. From afar, everything on the maria blended into varying shades of light and darkness depending on its depth.
At that moment, on the far side of the natural satellite, magnificent radiance enveloped a gigantic crater, brushing its asphalt-dark surface into brilliance. A living roar pulsed at some wondrous frequency.
A heartbeat.
It was a heartbeat that thundered like the pounding of a massive drum.
Using that heartbeat as both medium and starting point, countless streams of light surged into existence from the void. Each was suffused with one of thirteen distinct colors, like wondrous marks corresponding to something. They overlapped one after another within the hollow, slowly weaving lines of runes through an irregular blend before shaping them into an increasingly clear and stable humanoid form.

Though it was unclear whether the Herrscher of the End had possessed a human host in the past, the Herrscher of the End who now appeared upon the lunar surface had clearly transcended the boundary between reality and illusion. It was a perfectly reasonable conclusion. Herrschers who used humans as vessels possessed countless flaws and weaknesses, but the End, descending in this form, no longer needed to consider the frailty of a shell, the density of a soul, the limits of the brain, or the restrictions of a core.
