An Elf's Advice!
The sky was just beginning to lighten.
Soren was already up. He quickly washed up and then went to the training ground outside his room to stretch his muscles. His progress in mastering Sword Momentum techniques had entered another accumulation phase. Soren was currently training in the White Raven Tactics. This was much more difficult to master than Sword Momentum. He had been training for several months, but still hadn't made much progress. Normally, it would take three to five years to master even a part of such mid-to-high-level Combat Skill.
Sword Momentum is a single attack, while White Raven Tactics is a set of attacks.
It's like the difference between a single powerful sword technique and a complete set of powerful sword techniques. The former involves techniques for explosive power, building up energy, and executing continuous combinations of moves. All of these require specialized training and mastery of the corresponding skills. For example, Soren, having just used his Sword Momentum - Heavy Slash, cannot immediately build up energy to unleash Sword Momentum: Decapitation. The pinnacle of this skill lies with the Swordmaster; many combat techniques can only be used by them.
Soren moved around for a while, and the sky gradually brightened.
He took out a triple-shot Heavy Crossbow, rapidly loading ammunition with both hands, and then fired at the target a hundred meters away. This distance wasn't too far, but it wasn't close either. Soren barely aimed; he simply raised his hand and fired at the target in front of him. With his current strength and attributes, he hardly needed to aim, and the hit rate was quite high. All attribute-related abilities extend to various fields, making attributes the most difficult abilities to improve.
Slurp slurp!
All three crossbow bolts hit the target, and all of them struck the bullseye.
But there was no smugness on Soren's face, because this was just the simplest shooting technique, something that most people wouldn't even consider anything special. He calmly continued to reload his crossbow, then ran from left to right at an astonishing speed. At the same time, he fired at the distant target while Roll Dodge, and weaving.
Slurp slurp!
All three crossbow bolts hit their targets again, but this time only one hit the bullseye.
Soren glanced at the target ahead and frowned slightly. He hadn't yet mastered any Feat in long-range shooting; hitting a target at long distance while moving at high speed was already quite an achievement, entirely relying on his superior agility (balance, coordination, accuracy, etc.). However, this was really nothing special. A true master could strike the target's vitals—the heart—while both themselves and the enemy were moving at high speed. That was the mark of a true sharpshooter. If we're talking about sharpshooters by ordinary standards, then most Elf Longbow could do it.
The conditions are still insufficient; there is a lack of modern training equipment, and high-speed Moving Shot must be mastered in actual combat.
Soren toyed with the triple-shot Heavy Crossbow in his hand, then casually loaded it and fired it into the sky. With a thud, a small bird, about the size of a palm, was shot down.
Clap clap clap!
A round of applause came from afar, and then the Drow that Soren had once released walked over. His name was Dark Blade Andri, a combat master among the Drow and the leader of the Drow Warrior. Two other Drow Warrior followed behind him. He looked at Soren and bowed slightly, then exclaimed in admiration, "Your skill is truly astonishing!"
It looks a bit fake.
Soren was well aware of his own shooting skills, but his expression remained unchanged. He simply smiled and said, "It was just a casual practice session. Drow are the true masters of marksmanship!"
Dark Blade - Andri smiled slightly, then said meaningfully, "Does Your Excellency enjoy using Heavy Crossbow?"
"Yes." Soren frowned slightly, not quite understanding why the other person said that.
The Drow Warrior leader glanced at the target in the distance, then bowed slightly and said, "In my opinion, with your strength, you shouldn't be using such a cumbersome and slow Heavy Crossbow. Only those lacking talent are suited to Heavy Crossbow. It's far too slow to reload, and its power isn't greater than a bow and arrow. From my personal perspective, your strength, agility, and stamina far surpass others. From an archer's point of view, you are a true genius when it comes to using a bow!..."
genius?
Upon hearing this, Soren showed a thoughtful expression. In terms of attributes, he did indeed possess ample stats for using a bow and arrow. However, he had always used Heavy Crossbow and had developed a habit of it, so he had hardly considered switching to a bow and arrow. It wasn't until the Drow Warrior leader in front of him suggested it today that Soren realized that with his current attributes, a bow and arrow might be more effective in combat than Heavy Crossbow.
"Someone come here."
Dark Blade - Andri turned around and glanced behind him, then ordered, "Bring me my Elven War Bow."
One of his subordinates quickly left and returned a moment later with a dark gold Elven War Bow. Its surface was exquisitely curved, adorned with intricate engravings, as if coated with some kind of dye—the exact nature of which Soren wasn't quite sure. This Elven War Bow was clearly no ordinary weapon; in fact, anything that could be called Elven War Bow was extraordinary, at least a +1 level Supernatural Weapon. This was because Elf bows were far superior to those made by humans, their craftsmanship and materials incomparable.
--"Elven War Bow (+2) [Tier 2 Extraordinary Item]!"
Dark Blade - Andri handed the Elven War Bow to Soren, saying slowly, "Why don't you try this War Bow? Perhaps you'll find that arrows are more effective than Heavy Crossbow!"
Soren reached out and took the Elven War Bow.
In the past, his fighting style involved pre-loading his Heavy Crossbow with ammunition, firing it during battle, and then casually discarding it. In fact, Soren rarely reloaded his crossbow during combat, treating it as a disposable consumable. However, the words of the Drow before him today had caught his attention, and he was also eager to test the lethality of his Elven War Bow.
The attendant quickly brought over a Quiver filled with arrows.
Soren stood about 120 meters away from the target, then reached for an arrow, smoothly nocked it, and fired at the target. He wasn't very skilled with bows and arrows, but he wasn't completely unfamiliar with them; it's just that shooting with a bow wasn't as convenient as shooting with Heavy Crossbow. After all, Heavy Crossbow only needed to be loaded and fired, while a bow required the process of nocking and drawing the arrow. However, the continuity of shooting with a bow was undoubtedly much better than that of Heavy Crossbow.
Slurp!
An arrow was shot out, and Soren easily hit the bullseye.
His strength isn't high, but his agility is 24 points, meaning Soren has exceptional balance and coordination. He excels in anything related to skill.
This one arrow doesn't mean anything.
Soren had only been testing his skills. Once he got a feel for it, he took the Quiver and began Rapid Shot at the target in front of him.
Slurp slurp!
Five arrows were fired in quick succession. Soren's shooting speed was quite fast. Although his strength wasn't very high, his stamina was quite good. From aiming to firing, it took him about one second. That is to say, he Rapid Shot within five seconds, shooting one arrow per second at the target. Almost in the next instant, the five arrows pierced the air and hit the bullseye in the distance. He seemed to have no difficulty using a bow and arrow. Perhaps due to his Versatile Hands dexterity, his accuracy in aiming and shooting was very high.
Slurp slurp!
Soren didn't stop for a moment. He had thirty arrows in his Quiver, and he shot ten arrows at each target, which took him about thirty-six seconds. During this time, he didn't need to rest, nor did he experience any physical exhaustion. Only after he had emptied Quiver quiver did he feel a slight soreness and numbness in his arm, a clear indication of the effectiveness of his Superhuman Constitution.
The distant target was already full of arrows, Soren had barely missed any. However, only twenty-seven arrows hit the bullseye, with three missing.
From the perspective of aiming and shooting, this result should be considered quite good!
The Drow beside him looked slightly surprised.
Soren, however, stared into thought as he looked at the target in the distance, riddled with arrows. He seemed to have overlooked something before; perhaps the Heavy Crossbow was not the right long-range weapon for him.
