Vivian's Tears
Having received Saruman's promise, Soren felt much more at ease.
Since he assured him the mission would be completed by the end of the month, he would wait patiently for a while. Before leaving, Soren couldn't help but glance at the Man-Eating Plant again. He wasn't sure if it was his imagination, but he noticed that the plants moved strangely. These Mutated Plant were a bit special; he hoped Saruman's research on them wouldn't cause any trouble.
It was nearly evening.
Soren circled the area around the camp before preparing to return to continue his research on the ' Melf's Minute Meteors '.
This Low-tier God-slaying Spell is no joke. Soren has been analyzing the Spell Formula for so many days, yet he hasn't made much progress. Within the Spell Formula of ' Melf's Minute Meteors ', there are many extremely complex Spell nodes and Spell Circuit. If the Spell Formula were a circuit board, then the other 3rd-level Spell would be at the calculator level of difficulty, while Melf's Minute Meteors would be at the computer level. This requires an astonishing amount of memory and analytical ability; according to Soren's estimation, mastering it is already almost more difficult than 6th-Level Spell.
The sea breeze blew in from the side.
Soren strolled along the road as if taking a walk, and then arrived at the location of the West Gate.
He had just arrived when he noticed the Patrol Guard looking somewhat panicked, but it didn't seem to be anything serious.
"Your Excellency... Your Excellency!..."
Upon seeing Soren, the Guard in charge of training immediately jogged over and exclaimed, "Young Miss!... Young Miss is... is leading... a dragon for a stroll over there!..."
One-stop service?
Soren paused for a moment upon hearing this, then quickly rushed over in that direction.
Just as Soren rounded the gate, he saw Vivian ahead, dressed in a black princess dress, walking with a rather cheerful gait and a somewhat smug expression. Behind the little girl followed a Wyvern the size of a hunting dog, seemingly only a few days old. She was currently walking it on a pink rope around its neck, as if walking a dog. The newly hatched Wyvern wasn't large, but its eyes were full of ferocity. Occasionally, when someone passed by, it would open its mouth and growl softly, raising its Dragon Wing as if about to pounce.
Dragonkind have a slow growth cycle, but they acquire combat abilities very early.
Wyrmling can fight immediately after eating their Dragon Egg. Purebred Wyrmling are born with Challenge Rating of 1, easily capable of killing an untrained adult male. In just three to five days, the Wyrmling will grow fangs and claws, increasing their challenge level to 2-3, enough to kill some newly advanced professionals. Although the Wyvern in front of us looks like it has only recently hatched, it could easily take down one or two adults.
The untamed Wyvern was ferocious. It was completely passive, being pulled forward by Vivian with a rope.
Although it dared to act fiercely towards others, it showed considerable fear when its gaze fell upon the little girl. It seemed that, having just hatched, it had suffered at the little girl's hands. Wyrmling don't mistake the first person they see for their parents; the genetic memory of Dragonkind is no joke. Even though they look completely different and smell entirely alike, they can still distinguish each other. Raising a Draconic like this is far more dangerous than raising a wild wolf cub, which is why Soren wasn't entirely in favor of the little girl raising one.
"Elder brother!"
Vivian quickly spotted Soren behind her, and the little girl cried out happily. Then she used the rope to pull the Wyvern behind her towards them.
Newly hatched Wyvern cannot fly or run fast; they can only crawl forward by being pulled along.
"Look!"
Vivian, with a proud air, tossed the pink rope up, then gently kicked the Wyvern with her little foot, pulling it in front of Soren. "The Dragon Egg has hatched! Look, brother! Its name is Little Black! Doesn't it look majestic?" she exclaimed happily.
Little Black...
Soren's lips twitched slightly upon hearing this, then he forced a nod and said, "It is very impressive!"
"Giggle!"
Vivian laughed heartily at this, then waved her little hand and led the Wyvern forward. She planned to take it for a stroll so everyone could get to know it. The people here were quite violent; she didn't want Little Black to run off and get killed by these ferocious creatures next time it went out to play. The little girl walked with a cheerful gait, her little hand holding a rope, dragging the menacing Wyvern behind her. Occasionally, other people who saw her would freeze in surprise.
I bet everyone will know by tomorrow that the Young Miss is raising a dragon!
It was indeed quite impressive; while others walked their dogs, she walked her dragon. Seeing how happy the little girl was, Soren could only shake his head and let her be.
Dinner time.
Vivian returned, leading the Wyvern.
Newly hatched Wyvern have huge appetites; with ample food, they can gain three to five pounds a day, reaching around 1000 pounds in about Wyvern months. The Catgirl dressed in a tiny maid outfit is responsible for feeding them, carrying a large wooden bucket filled with fresh fish caught at the port. The little Catgirl seems quite playful, grabbing a fish and tossing it here and there, amusing the Wyvern in front of her as it stretches its neck and catches it with its head.
It opened its mouth and swallowed a foot-long fresh fish whole.
Having only hatched for a day or two, this Wyvern was already able to devour a whole bucket of fresh fish.
Occasionally, the little Catgirl would greedily pick up a fresh fish and smell it, seemingly quite fond of the fishy smell. Unfortunately, after looking around, she still didn't dare to put it in her mouth.
Because if she eats raw fish, Vivian will scold her when she gets back.
She was a little afraid of Vivian.
Especially when she wears a black princess dress, she always makes the little Catgirl feel a little naughty and scared.
A quiet day passed just like that.
After nightfall, Soren began analyzing the Spell Formula of ' Melf's Minute Meteors '. Perhaps due to the accumulation of knowledge over the previous few days, his research progressed slightly faster.
A Magic Lamp was lit in the spacious room, which felt like a 100-watt light bulb.
These are the Alchemy tools that Goria brought, along with some Alchemy implements made by the Wizard Saruman. With two more orthodox Wizard by his side, Soren has begun to enjoy some futuristic conveniences. The Wizard world often feels like a science fiction fantasy, and Soren still believes that Golem and highly intelligent robots aren't that different. In fact, in some areas, Golem are even more efficient than robots.
Soren, engrossed in his research, lost track of time.
He himself didn't know how much time had passed. By the time he snapped out of his thoughts on the Spell, it was already completely dark.
Tap tap tap.
A very light sound of footsteps approached from afar and then stopped in front of Soren's gate.
"Vivian?"
Soren listened intently for a moment, then put down his quill and collected the large stack of white paper. As his strength increased, his perception and listening abilities became stronger, making it highly unlikely that other Rogue would dare to ambush Soren. Consequently, he also became more perceptive in his daily life than before.
He got up and gently opened the door, whereupon he saw the little girl standing there.
Vivian was wearing a pure white nightgown and pink cotton slippers. Her beautiful eyes seemed a little teary, as if she had just woken up and was still a bit groggy.
"Brother!" The little girl opened her small arms and rushed into Soren's arms, tears welling up in her beautiful eyes.
Soren quickly scooped up the little girl in front of him, bent down and kissed her forehead, gently patted her back, and said softly, "What's wrong? Why did you suddenly cry?"
Vivian buried her head in Soren's arms, nuzzling him gently like a kitten, then whispered, "Brother!... I dreamt about Heath..."
Heath.
That loyal old dog.
Upon hearing this, a rare hint of sadness and longing appeared on Soren's face. He gently picked up the little girl before him, kissed her cheek, and whispered, "Don't cry... Heath has been buried in the Cemetery District; it will find peace in the realm of the God of the Dead!..."
Perhaps because she had a new pet, the little girl remembered the old dog that had grown up with her.
Soren was a rather cold-blooded person.
There weren't many people he respected, and the old dog accomplished things that many others couldn't.
It was a loyal old dog.
Soren can still recall how old and frail it was, yet its steps were firm as it guarded the little girl. Sadly, it died peacefully in a corner, without even having a proper meal.
Because Soren came back to life.
And its mission was accomplished.
Faith enabled the old, hungry dog to endure until Soren awoke, then it shed its burden and passed away peacefully in its sleep.
Soren buried it in the Cemetery District, because it deserved it.
"Elder brother..."
Vivian seemed much better after Soren's gentle touch. She tilted her head up to look at Soren and whispered, "Vivian is so powerful now. Can she bring Heath back to life?"
"I miss it so much!"
silence.
Soren fell silent. He gently stroked the little girl's long hair, kissed her forehead, and did not answer the question.
Vivian seemed to understand something, and with a somewhat gloomy expression, she curled up in Soren's arms.
"Heath ..."
The little girl's voice choked with emotion as she murmured, "It's really dead, and it'll never come back...?"
"Waaaaah!..."
(P. S.: That's all for today. I estimate this volume will be finished within ten chapters.) (To be continued~^~)
