Faith Conflict
No sooner had Soren entered than another figure followed him in.
However, instead of going through the main entrance like Soren, he quietly climbed through a side window into one of the rooms. The room was luxuriously furnished, somewhat out of place in this remote town. There were even some incredibly expensive oriental Porcelain displayed on the wall shelves. The floor was covered with soft carpets, and the bedding was priceless velvet. By any measure, the decor here was beyond the reach of a minor nobleman in a remote area.
The Witherleaf Town doesn't have much arable land or many local specialties, and its tax revenue mainly comes from rent collected by the Lord.
This amount of money is barely enough to maintain a reasonably decent lifestyle.
It's estimated that in some larger cities, even moderately wealthy merchants could live more comfortably than these nobles.
But looking at the interior decoration of this house, it's at least at the level of Viscount or noble, that is, the luxurious decoration of a private estate of a middle-class noble.
This noble background might not be so clean!
After touring the rather luxurious mansion, Soren realized that the other party's identity might not be entirely clean.
Simply put...
A normal income couldn't support this kind of lifestyle. Even an ordinary bedroom is decorated to this standard. The owner's bedroom is probably comparable to Goria's bedroom in White Horse City.
What is Goria's identity?
She was a member of the Northern Witches Council and the de facto ruler of a North city; the difference in their status was incomparable.
Da da da.
Soren, who was moving forward, suddenly stopped. He was completely invisible in his Stealth state, so he wasn't worried about being discovered by others. A Vampire Servant had just walked past him without noticing Soren standing a meter away. Unless Soren had a distinct blood scent and they could track him using their Vampire blood, it would be virtually impossible for them to detect Soren presence.
A slight noise came from another room.
Soren took a step back warily. He then saw the door to a room with a window on the side open, but he didn't see anyone. The door was simply opened and then closed gently.
Rogue!
There is another high-ranking Rogue here.
The opponent's Stealth ability was on par with Soren's; Soren couldn't see through the opponent's Stealth, and the opponent seemed unaware of Soren's presence either.
If the door hadn't suddenly opened, the two would probably have needed to get close enough to detect each other using their senses and experience. But now, Soren had pinpointed the other's location first, giving him the upper hand. If he wanted, he could even eliminate the target in three seconds.
But doing so would also expose his whereabouts.
A hint of curiosity lingered in Soren's mind, but he temporarily suppressed the urge to ascertain the other's identity. Instead, he quietly followed behind, keeping a certain distance, intending to see what the other was there to spy on.
They're definitely not Vampire!
Not many people would be so bored as to use Stealth on their own turf. He clearly waited until the Vampire servant left before coming out, so he is most likely Stalker from another faction.
In such a remote town, one couldn't imagine where else a high-ranking Rogue could be found besides the Eyeless Soren.
This house is quite large.
The Rogue ahead seemed familiar, probably having come to investigate secretly. He turned several corners and eventually arrived at a door, then opened a door leading to the Basement.
Squeak.
There was a clear sound when the door opened. The Rogue in front seemed a little nervous.
After opening the door, he quietly slipped inside and then casually closed it behind him. Closing the door behind someone is certainly not a good habit. Left with no other option, Soren could only wait a while before gently opening the door. Torches lit both sides of the Basement, and below, layers of stairs led deeper into the space, seemingly containing a tunnel. It was estimated that this place had been set up for quite some time.
We just entered the Basement.
Soren then smelled a faint scent of blood.
At the corner of the stairs, he saw a limp corpse. The method of killing was swift and decisive, a very simple one-hit kill, striking the enemy directly in the heart and then snapping the neck.
"He's a master!"
Soren glanced at the corpse, his expression gradually turning serious. The Vampire Servant's Hit Points was incredibly tenacious; to kill so swiftly and decisively was something no ordinary Rogue could accomplish. He was either an experienced veteran or a high-level professional of rank 16 or higher. From the location where the corpse was struck, Soren discerned a hint of the Assassin's ruthlessness and efficiency.
This guy might have received Assassin combat training!
Following the passage forward, one could see some eerie murals, Soren didn't have time to examine them, because he discovered two more corpses ahead.
"Strength approaching that of Legendary!"
Soren glanced at the two corpses lying in the corner, his expression growing increasingly serious. Both enemies had been killed in a single blow, and taking down two enemies simultaneously without alerting anyone else was no easy feat, even for Soren with his current abilities. The Rogue's class level was likely above 18.
In other words, he is at least a Quasi-Legendary Rogue!
As Soren ventured deeper, his vision gradually opened up, revealing a large, secret chamber before him. Most striking was an altar-like structure with a pool of blood in its center, surrounded by several smaller pools. No wonder the Vampire hadn't noticed their companions' deaths; the stench of blood here was simply too strong, making it virtually impossible for them to detect any other traces.
The altar of the Vampire God Child!
As Dark Creature that feeds on the blood of the living, Soren naturally didn't expect to find anything of value near their altars.
However, judging from the size of these blood pools, it seems that Vampire have been entrenched here for some time. Without dozens or even hundreds of missing people, these blood pools simply wouldn't be full.
A prayer ceremony is taking place inside the altar!
At the very center was a Priest in a long black robe, followed by an elderly man clearly dressed as a nobleman. Vampire do not Aging, so his current appearance undoubtedly indicates that he was transformed into Vampire by someone else after his body entered old age. As for the reasons for becoming Vampire, there are probably only a few possibilities.
A fervent prayer ceremony.
Soren didn't find the first Rogue, but he was certain the man was hiding somewhere nearby.
"Bring the offerings up!"
After delivering his final prayer, the Black-robed Priest gave instructions to the believers kneeling beneath the altar.
soon.
Then one person was brought before the altar.
He was chained and shackled, and judging from his back, he didn't seem to be an ordinary person. These Vampire didn't need to be chained with shackles made of Steel to deal with ordinary people.
This is a professional!
Soren couldn't see the other person's face clearly from behind, nor could he determine his profession, only that he was likely a melee fighter.
but.
As the man, who was to be sacrificed, was brought up, Soren immediately noticed the shadows nearby distort.
Kneel down!
The Black-robed Priest coldly shouted, but the only response was a glob of phlegm and a voice filled with fanaticism. "The Eyeless are the True God! You followers of False Deity won't live much longer!..."
Bang.
A powerful punch silenced the man's words.
Upon hearing his words, Soren immediately pieced together the whole story. It seemed that the Eyeless and the Vampire Church had clashed, each trying to claim the area as their own territory, and it appeared that this Eyeless Cultist had been captured by the Vampire. When the man on the altar was struck by a heavy punch, Soren also saw his appearance clearly as he turned to the side; the man only had one eye, the other eye socket was empty.
A high-ranking member of the Eyeless Organization!
Only a true fanatic would gouge out his own eyes; no wonder a high-ranking Rogue came to his rescue.
but.
How can a lone Rogue defeat these Vampire?
Just as a hint of doubt arose in Soren's mind, he felt a tremor around him, followed by a violent noise from above.
(P. S.: That's all for today.) (To be continued~^~)
