Background / History
Murlocs were Lin Xiao's original Kinfolk in his oceanic Divine Domain. They began as a tribe of barely more than one hundred Gray Mist Fishmen, a race considered among the weakest available. Their short lifespans, combat casualties, and lack of reproductive resources kept their population nearly stagnant for more than two centuries of Divine Domain time. 1 2
Lin Xiao strengthened the tribe's faith through ceremonies, Divine Revelations, and displays of divine power. He created and loaded Salted Fish Thrust, making True Believers dramatically more dangerous in battle and encouraging Light Believers to deepen their faith. Four hundred Gray Mist Fishman refugees were subsequently integrated into the tribe. 4 5
During the Snake-Men conflicts, the Murlocs proved that numbers, faith, and coordinated burst attacks could compensate for their weak racial baseline. Their casualties remained severe, but Level 0 Murlocs using Salted Fish Thrust and iron short spears could kill even Level 2 Snakemen Leaders. 12 13
The creation of the Blackscale Naga initially threatened to replace the Murlocs as Lin Xiao's primary Kinfolk. Instead, the two races were made to coexist in a mixed tribe; the stronger Naga became the main combat force while Murlocs remained a rapidly reproducing auxiliary population. 24 25 26
In Lin Xiao's Final Exam, native Murloc tribes were conquered, assimilated, and converted from worship of the Sea God. Over five years, these conquests expanded his forces into a regional power numbering 140,000 Murlocs. 53 54 63
Lin Xiao later rebuilt the Gray Mist Fishman bloodline with Creation Energy. The resulting species gained dramatically improved attributes, a water affinity, viable spellcasting potential, and a new Level 3 advancement path. Their battlefield performance subsequently exceeded the expectations attached to ordinary Murlocs. 113 115
Appearance
Murlocs are scaled amphibious humanoids, initially small and physically frail but exceptionally mobile in water. Ordinary Gray Mist Fishmen stood roughly 1.2–1.3 meters tall before their genetic enhancement. 23 113
- Their baseline form possesses scales, underwater breathing, and basic swimming ability. 23
- They are significantly less agile on land than in water. 23
- Enhanced Murlocs grow beyond 1.5 meters, develop visible musculature, finer scales, and more streamlined bodies. 113
- Enhanced Murloc Warriors reach roughly 1.8–1.9 meters, while Level 2 warriors exceed two meters. 113
- Murlocs commonly wield bone spikes, bone forks, bone blades, short spears, and later refined weapons. 4 11 45
Traits
- Rapid reproduction — Murlocs mature in roughly three years and reproduce quickly; a bloodline extracted from Lin Xiao's early Murlocs doubled their breeding speed and survival rate. 6 16
- Short lifespan — Their maximum lifespan is about twenty years, with many becoming too old to hunt or fight around age fifteen. 6
- Omnivorous diet — They can subsist on roots, leaves, insects, fish, snails, kelp, and even carrion, making large populations comparatively easy to feed. 45 56
- Group courage — Murlocs become much bolder in large numbers; an army of over one hundred thousand crossed the dangerous Blackwater Swamp and overwhelmed local tribes through sheer mass. 70
- Poor discipline among new converts — Native tribes recently brought under Lin Xiao's rule were noisy, poorly trained, and mostly only Nominal or Light Believers. 57
Abilities & Skills
Salted Fish Thrust
A five-star burst skill granted to Murlocs who attain True Believer faith. It produces a single, extremely fast charge with a fivefold burst of speed and power. 4 5 13
- Allows weak Murlocs to breach defenses or kill stronger opponents with coordinated strikes. 13
- Works especially well with short spears and refined iron spearheads. 11 13
- Can smash through reinforced sand walls and destroy a stone pillar from over thirty meters away. 4 5
- Leaves the user exhausted and vulnerable after the burst. 13 38
- Remains dangerous after the species enhancement, overwhelming Gnoll charges and collapsing enemy wings in mass assaults. 115
Water Spirit
An enhanced racial talent created through the reconstruction of the Gray Mist Fishman gene pool. 113
- Improves underwater agility, swimming speed, and diving endurance. 113
- Grants resistance to water-element damage. 113
- Supports advancement from Level 2 Murloc Warrior into either a Level 3 Murloc Chieftain or Murloc Warlock. 113
- Raises the species' spirit to 1, allowing spellcasting potential with proper training. 113
Murloc Warlock Spellcasting
Some Level 3 Murlocs become Murloc Warlocks, randomly awakening three to five innate water-element spells from their racial spell pool. 113 128
- Known possible spells include Water Arrow, Tide Calling, Summon Water Elemental, Water Shield, Essence of Sea Water, and Water Barrier. 113
- Large groups can create Seawater Barrier, a collective shield capable of absorbing repeated arrow volleys. 126
- More than a thousand warlocks can jointly summon medium Water Elementals comparable to Level 4 units. 128
- Their strength lies in large-scale production and combined casting rather than individual power. 126
All-rounder Warrior Class
A class available to True Believers of any race in Lin Xiao's Divine Domain. 89
- Can advance to Level 5, allowing Murlocs to gain class strength beyond their original Level 2 racial limit. 89
- Provides combat training that makes enhanced Murlocs comparable to many intermediate races with ordinary classes. 115
- Its Level 3 defensive formation improves blocking, parrying, arrow deflection, and battlefield survival. 126
- Does not remove the Murlocs' racial ceiling; even enhanced Murlocs remain unable to naturally exceed Level 3 as a species. 115
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Bone Blade — Early tribal weapon used by the Murloc Chieftain and other fighters. 4 5
- Bone Spike / Bone Fork — Crude weapons wielded by ordinary Murlocs. 5 45
- Short Spear — A preferred weapon for maximizing the killing force of Salted Fish Thrust. 11 13
- Fine Iron Short Spear — Enabled Level 0 Murlocs to lethally injure Level 2 Snakemen during burst attacks. 13
- Refined weapons — Following later military development, improved equipment removed a major weakness in the enhanced Murloc forces. 115
Relationships
- Lin Xiao — Their deity, creator, and commander. He cultivates their faith, upgrades their species, directs their conquests, and at times uses newly conquered Murlocs as expendable assault troops. 4 53 57 113
- Murloc Chieftain — Tribal leader and Lin Xiao's usual vessel for descent in the early Divine Domain period. 4 5
- Slarda — Greater Naga and Epic Hero who commands Murloc armies, directs their warlock development, and manages their population and resources. 126 140 150
- Blackscale Naga / Greater Nagas — Initially hostile neighbors, later co-residents and military allies; Nagas generally serve as the elite force while Murlocs provide numbers and support. 24 25 115
- Snake-Men — Early enemy force against whom Murlocs first demonstrated the effectiveness of their faith-powered burst attacks. 8 13
- Frogmen — Often preyed upon Murloc communities and treated them as livestock before Lin Xiao's forces began conquering Frogmen tribes. 55 57
- Lobsterfolk — Frequent rivals and prey; later managed as a sustainable food and resource population under Slarda's orders. 46 51 140
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Divine Domain Development
The Murlocs begin as Lin Xiao's only Kinfolk. Their low combat power and poor growth force him to rely on faith manipulation, card fusion, and Salted Fish Thrust to create an early advantage. 1 2 4
Snake-Men Tests
They fight Snake-Men in successive school tests and survive a costly blood war. Their coordinated charges, Lin Xiao's divine support, and their growing devotion establish them as a viable combat force despite their reputation as a weak race. 8 13 17
Naga Integration
The Murlocs nearly clash with the newly created Blackscale Naga, but Lin Xiao forces coexistence. Over time, the two peoples form a mixed tribe, with Murlocs shifting toward an auxiliary role. 24 25 26
Final Exam Conquests
Lin Xiao manipulates, defeats, and assimilates native Murloc tribes, converting their faith and using their numbers to conquer Frogmen, contest Blackwater Swamp, and build a force of 140,000 Murlocs. 51 53 57 63 70
Species Reconstruction
The Gray Mist Fishmen are genetically enhanced into a much stronger aquatic race, gaining Water Spirit, spellcasting pathways, and a new Level 3 cap. Their first battle after the upgrade sees fourteen thousand Murlocs rapidly defeat a larger force of Werewolves, Gnolls, and Dire Wolf cavalry. 113 115
Divine Domain Army
Murlocs become a structured military arm: warrior brigades, defensive formations, warlock corps, and water-elemental support formations. Though still viewed by outsiders as cannon fodder, they repeatedly prove capable of defeating superior forces through numbers, class training, and coordinated skills. 126 128 133
Trivia
- Early Gray Mist Fishmen were so weak that even Lin Xiao initially considered saving valuable skill cards rather than spending them on Murlocs. 2
- A Murloc Light Believer produces only 0.02 Faith Points per day, one-fifth of a human Light Believer's output. 7
- Lin Xiao's Murlocs were later described by an observer as having “perfectly developed genes” and potential as a new species. 116
- Lin Xiao eventually renamed his reforged Murloc Kinfolk Little Fishmen after adding the pseudo Fishmen Overlord Body, emphasizing durability, regeneration, and fertility rather than raw attribute increases. 320
