Marriage?
A long and intense battle ensued, marking the first passionate night after Irene and Saine's reunion.
Afterwards, Irene asked Saine when he planned to marry her.
In the Wizard World, polygamy is a common practice among nobles and Knight.
This is a tradition that has been passed down since Ancient Era, and it does not mean that the Wizard World is unfriendly to women.
The fact that powerful life forms occupy more members of the opposite sex is itself the law of survival of the fittest in the Star Realm.
In a more primitive power structure, men generally seem to have more say than women.
However, in the Wizard World, the vast majority of Mage Mage to the tradition of monogamy.
This may be because Mage's power comes from knowledge, and knowledge is often gender-neutral.
Taking the Poison Fire Green Flame World War that Saine participated in as an example, he witnessed many powerful female Mage.
Saine's grandmaster, Cuilisi, his senior master, Pei Nasi, and his master Luluman, were all top-tier female experts.
Irene's question caused Saine to fall silent for a moment.
He thought of Lina. If he had to choose a woman as his life partner, Saine would definitely choose Lina.
Women are always very sensitive, and Irene is no exception.
She read something from Saine's silence.
However, being a member of the royal family and possessing more experience and knowledge than Saine, Irene didn't urge Saine. Instead, she smoothed her slightly damp long hair and asked in a more gentle tone, "What, do you have another Mage as your wife?"
"Is she your Cousin Serena?" Irene asked.
Irene had actually suspected that Saine and his Cousin Serena were having an affair back when Saine an apprentice, and had even teased Saine about it.
However, Irene did not regard Serena as a competitor. Serena's strength as a magic apprentice was her biggest weakness.
Formal-Ranked Magician often have lifespans of nearly a thousand years. Before reaching the first rank, Serena and Saine were essentially from two different worlds.
Saine remained silent.
At this point, Irene realized that things were not so simple.
"Not your Cousin Serena? Then who is it?" Irene asked, her brows slightly furrowed.
Saine didn't really want to talk about his childhood experiences in the Underdark.
As he Azure Source Holy Tower and became the disciple of the tower master Luluman, the past should have slowly dissipated like the wind, settling into the deepest memories in Saine's mind.
Saine's silence, and the faint repression in his emotions, made Irene feel somewhat unfamiliar with him.
It was only then that Eileen realized that she knew nothing about Sain's experiences before joining the Azure Source Tower, only that he came from the Lycia Alliance and seemed to be from a knight family.
"Forget it, forget it, I don't necessarily want you to take responsibility. Truth and knowledge are our eternal pursuits." Irene waved her hand, looking like she didn't mind.
Indeed, while marriages do occur among Mage, they are relatively rare.
Why do Mage care more about lineage than Knight?
It is because many Mage are too obsessed with the Truth Arcana that they have abandoned the simplest physiological needs and the concept of passing on their lineage.
Many Mage go through life without having offspring. When they look back and realize that they have no suitable successor to all their learning, they will naturally pay more attention to the disciples they have taken in.
Furthermore, offspring born of Bloodline are not necessarily destined for success.
The Grant Family lineage is extensive, but not every direct descendant has the potential to become Level 1 Knight.
Bloodline inheritance is still somewhat unreliable. Knowledgeable Mage obviously prefer to choose an outstanding successor to inherit their mantle.
Furthermore, knowledge has little to do with genes or background.
The level of initial Mental Strength does indeed limit the threshold for Spellcaster's profession, but a truly powerful Mage does not rely on that initial Mental Strength value, but on the knowledge they possess!
Irene's apparent lack of concern touched Saine.
Saine looked into Irene's eyes and said, "I'm sorry."
Saine's "I'm sorry" silenced Irene as well.
She thought of many things, and for a moment, Irene even wondered if it was Saine's family that had forced him into a marriage.
Compared to the Magic Family, many Knight Family do indeed place great importance on the continuation of their Bloodline.
It's understandable that Irene would have this suspicion.
The passionate night that Saine and Irene shared after their reunion ended in silence and with unspoken thoughts on their minds.
Before dawn, Irene quietly left the top floor of the Holy Tower.
Since Saine did not promise to marry Irene, Irene could not openly live at his place.
Although Mage are engrossed in studying the Truth Arcana, it doesn't mean they completely disregard worldly criticism.
There aren't many Formal Magician at the Azure Source Holy Tower, and Irene didn't want to become the subject of other Mage' gossip during their experiments.
She was also a shy female Mage.
After seeing Irene off, Saine continued his daily research and magical experiments as usual.
However, Saine was not in good condition in the lab today.
Looking at the thin slice of Flame Creature muscle under the Element Microscope, Saine wasn't thinking about the degree of Fire Element fusion in the cells of this body; instead, he was thinking about other things.
Looking back at all the women Saine has met over the years, they have all been quite different.
The harsh living conditions of the Underdark meant that the strong had more resources and women.
And in that atmosphere, it's unlikely that any Black Wizard Apprentice would be involved in romance.
The special relationship between Saine and Serena can also be seen as Serena being dependent on Saine, which is why she doesn't interfere much in Saine's private affairs.
Only Irene, from any perspective, is an equal individual to Saine.
Therefore, after having the most intimate relationship with Saine, she would mention wanting to marry Saine.
The two were definitely a perfect match. The Grant Family was no small family, and the royal family that Irene belonged to was not of simple origin either.
If the two of them could publicly unite, it would be of great benefit even to their families.
The Grant Family wouldn't mind partnering with a Magic Family that has several Formal Magician, and the Kingdom of Faran would likely be equally happy to form a marriage alliance with a Knight Family that has Level-2 Knight.
More importantly, Saine is the disciple of the Tower Master, and that alone is enough.
A pang of guilt towards Irene caused Saine to let out a long sigh in the laboratory.
Now, he's even more eager to visit the Western Islands.
Whether she was alive or dead, he wanted to know Lina's current condition.
He believed that Lina wouldn't perish so easily; it was a mysterious feeling, Saine thought that this feeling might be somewhat related to the astrology studied by some Mage.
Unfortunately, Saine didn't know much about this academic field, and even the Azure Source Holy Tower didn't have any special Magic Books introducing astrology.
