The Desperate Escapee
In the forest, Linsey and Red groped their way toward the direction from which the sound came.
The two of them made almost no sound.
But during the process, they noticed that the object making noise in the forest was moving towards the spot where the bird had landed.
Just over ten seconds later.
Under the cover of layers of green trees, Linsey and Red spotted the source of all the noise.
Several Tree Spirit, whose bodies were made of plant Vines, were standing in the same spot.
They hurried along, quickly and greedily devouring the birds to replenish their severely depleted energy.
"The escaped Tree Spirit... Have these plant-like people started eating meat?"
Linsey and Red exchanged a glance.
The two lowered their voices, and the girl spoke first, asking, "Should we kill him?"
Linsey immediately shook her head:
"We must remain calm and not act impulsively."
"This forest is too vast. It's rare to encounter Devil Beast of this rank in the past month. Let's observe as much as possible..."
"Um?"
Before Linsey could finish speaking, another commotion came from afar.
The two looked towards the eastern forest, where they heard what sounded like a colossal creature smashing through the vegetation, its target the Tree Spirit.
Even though the dense trees blocked the view, the countless birds and beasts in the forest were startled, almost drawing a clear and distinct path, giving one a sense of the savage power that charged around like a tank.
"..."
This unexpected step really brought about an incredible change?
Linsey and Red had subtle expressions.
However, they remained cautious and continued to observe the situation.
In contrast, the Tree Spirit below were now completely silent.
They stood up, looked in terror in the direction from which the sound came, and then fled into the distance without looking back.
Only then did they begin to cry out in despair in their Beast Language.
"Oh no, he's catching up."
"Don't give up, run! We can definitely escape!"
"Forest, why?"
The Tree Spirit fled westward in a panic.
Linsey was hiding in the shadows, followed them. He roughly estimated that reality was extremely cruel to these Tree Spirit.
Their speed was completely outpaced by their pursuers.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, they will be completely caught up within half an hour! "Red, let's decide whether to make a move based on the situation."
Linsey gave an order, and Red nodded slightly before joining the chase.
Fifteen minutes later, what Linsey had predicted happened.
The four Tree Spirit, despite pushing themselves to their limits, were unable to escape their pursuers.
In the shadows of the dense forest.
A three-meter-tall, gray-black giant bear charged out with a ferocious roar.
Beside its massive body were more than a dozen gray Forest Wolf. Some guarded the giant bear, while others moved faster, blocking the four Tree Spirit and surrounding them.
In a moment of crisis, the Tree Spirit were forced to stand together.
Faced with the threat of death, the Thorn on their bodies begin to grow rapidly and intertwine with each other, forming a dark green barrier full of sharp thorns.
A desperate plea echoed from within the walls, "We just want to leave the forest!"
"Hey, let us leave. It'll be better for everyone!"
"Roar--"
The giant bear opened its blood-red maw.
A deafening roar then echoed through the forest.
This enormous creature had no intention of communicating with these fugitives.
It charged forward, its massive bear paw covered in a dark gray light, and with a single claw, it tore a gash in the hard Thorn thorns.
"Traitors only have one path: death!"
The trapped Tree Spirit had no way out; death was imminent.
They watched in despair as the bear's claws came crashing down.
Then...
With a 'snap'.
The giant bear that had cornered the four Tree Spirit suddenly collapsed to the ground! "Huh?"
The Tree Spirit inside the Thorn fortress looked bewildered.
They then discovered that, without them noticing, an arrow had appeared on the bear's head! And this arrow had not caused an ordinary stab wound.
At the spot on the bear's head where the arrow struck, there was a dent, as if it had been hit with a giant hammer.
Ice, fire, and corrosion.
The simultaneous action of three different types of energy instantly turned the giant bear's brain into a colorful mess! "..."
"?"
Where did the attack come from?
When were the arrows planted? A Fifth Stage Jungle Giant Bear just died like that? Countless questions flooded the minds of these Tree Spirit. They couldn't comprehend what was happening, but regardless, the reality was undeniable—they were saved!
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Almost simultaneously, several more Sky Piercer sounds rang out.
Through the gaps in the Thorn barrier, the Tree Spirit were able to see clearly this time.
Several flaming spears shot out suddenly from the shadows of the forest.
The Forest Gray Wolf that were surrounding them just a second ago were immediately struck by spears and fell to the ground while chasing after the giant bear. Each wound showed a terrible burning mark!
"Awooo—"
The lead bear was killed instantly, and its companions fell one after another.
The remaining Forest Gray Wolf completely lost their will to fight and turned to flee into the dense forest.
There was absolutely no trace of the ferocity they displayed when hunting.
Until the situation developed to this point.
The Tree Spirit finally saw who had rescued them.
It was a creature that resembled an ape in shape, but had very little body hair and walked upright on the ground.
"Humans?"
Linsey, the first to appear, ignored the Tree Spirit.
He left only the instruction, "Red, keep an eye on them," before disappearing into the woods in the direction the Forest Gray Wolf had fled.
A moment later, a lingering voice drifted over. "Our activities in the forest need to be kept secret. I'll be back as soon as possible."
Click!
The sound of a sharp object being pulled from the corpse once again attracted the attention of the Tree Spirit.
They turned their heads to look in the direction from which the sound came, and discovered another astonishing fact.
The red spears that had just killed those gray wolves had all vanished! On the only Forest Gray Wolf whose corpse still had a spear stuck in it, a human woman stomped on its neck, breaking it and pulling out the crimson spear.
"Tsk—"
Red kicked the gray wolf beneath him with disdain.
After confirming that the guy was dead, she circled the Tree Spirit again and fired a shot at all the Forest Gray Wolf that were lying on the ground.
Only after confirming that all the Forest Gray Wolf were dead beyond any doubt did it silently walk toward the Tree Spirit.
"Humans!"
Witnessing this merciless scene, a Tree Spirit said in trembling Beast Language, "Thank you for saving us, I..."
"Don't speak yet!"
Red interrupted the Tree Spirit's trembling gratitude.
The girl didn't even glance at the Tree Spirit, but instead patted the head of the giant bear that had fallen to the ground.
A Fifth Stage Devil Beast.
He was caught off guard by a silent attack and was shot in the head with an arrow, dying instantly.
Red prefers to think about the topic of battle.
She propped her white chin up with one hand, raised her gaze, and began to imagine tonight's combat training.
"If Linsey uses this trick on me during practice tonight..."
"Can I avoid it?"
