Background / History
Tu Qing was a black-robed Demon Slayer and the son of Qingzhu County’s Deputy Chief Envoy, Tu Shan. His father’s position gave him considerable influence within the Demon Slayer Division, which Tu Qing used to command and intimidate lower-ranking personnel. Wen Xuan specifically warned Fang Mu that Tu Qing was strong, petty, and prone to holding grudges. 8 31
He developed an immediate hostility toward Fang Mu. During the fox-demon bait operation, Tu Qing secretly hoped Fang Mu would encounter the fox demon and be killed. After Hu Mei’er was captured, he forced Fang Mu to personally return her for execution and demanded her complete pelt. 9
Tu Qing subsequently exploited his authority to make Fang Mu his “exclusive” Demon Slayer Envoy despite Fang Mu already serving Wen Xuan. He repeatedly assigned Fang Mu dangerous captured demons, arranged for Sun Hou to monitor him, and treated Fang Mu’s apparent suffering as entertainment. 11 13 15 16
When Fang Mu completed an outside-city investigation, Tu Qing granted him an access token as promised. Privately, however, he intended to keep sending Fang Mu on lethal missions so that he could claim the rewards without accepting the risk himself. 18
Following Sun Hou’s death, Tu Qing suspected Fang Mu and Qi Zhu of concealing the truth. Unable to prove it, he retaliated by overwhelming Fang Mu with demon-catching bags and forcing him into further demon hunts. 28
Tu Qing later compelled Fang Mu to accompany him on a mission to rescue Qi Zhu. During the journey, he and his subordinates revealed hostile intentions toward Fang Jing, ultimately attempting to harm her while Fang Mu was separated from the group. 35 36
Fang Mu returned after killing Tu Qing’s subordinates and confronted Tu Qing directly. Tu Qing used a rare Fireball Talisman supplied by Tu Shan, but Fang Mu blocked it with the Golden Bell Shield before piercing Tu Qing through the heart. Fang Mu then refined the bodies at the scene to destroy evidence. 37
Personality
Tu Qing was arrogant, vindictive, and accustomed to relying on his father’s authority. He responded badly to perceived disrespect, particularly from Fang Mu, and repeatedly escalated minor conflicts into dangerous assignments and personal harassment. 8 11 16
He enjoyed watching Fang Mu appear exhausted and injured after demon-slaying missions, explicitly keeping him alive because Fang Mu’s suffering amused him. 15 16
Tu Qing was also jealous of Qi Zhu’s concern for Fang Mu. His jealousy influenced his treatment of Fang Mu after Hu Mei’er’s capture and contributed to his suspicion of Fang Mu and Qi Zhu after Sun Hou’s death. 9 28
Despite his bluster, Tu Qing panicked when Fang Mu openly turned against him. During their final battle, he invoked Tu Shan’s name and relied on a protective talisman rather than his own strength. 37
