The New Horde was fighting the parallel Frostwolf Clan in Frostfire Ridge, the Southern Alliance was busy stirring up internal strife among the Draenei in Shadowmoon Valley, while the Northern Alliance peacefully focused on development and infrastructure, happily watching the show.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Gorgrond, no Azeroth faction had chosen this place as a juicy prize, so it had long remained a relatively neutral public region.
There had never really been any restrictions. Anyone could take a bite if they had the strength and confidence in their own army. But words were one thing, reality another. The Primal Gronn and Magnaron Giants living in Gorgrond were simply too formidable. There was no need to risk lives fighting them when the cost so greatly outweighed the gains. Thus, aside from adventurers coming and going to take bounty jobs or hunt down Orc and other native slaves, no respectable faction had established roots here.
But now, someone had finally made a move. As the first victor, the Northern Alliance accepted Dalaran's invitation. After largely sorting out and consolidating its new colony in Feralas, it dispatched a research-oriented advance team composed primarily of mages, with Dawn Knights as support. They crossed the sea to Gorgrond and set up camp near the Evergrowth Woods.
The mages had always believed this region possessed tremendous research value. For instance, some of the active plants were so powerful that they could pull their roots from the earth and roam about like beasts. Their structures were also extraordinarily diverse, unlike the Night Elves' Treants.
