Lan Yi entered Artificial Divine Realm 1909 expecting to descend in Jinmen, but appeared in Puhai shortly before the Jingwu Gymnastics Association's establishment instead. The discrepancy was attributed to the War Zone's dynamic difficulty balancing. At this time, he stood out both for his 188 cm height and for refusing the queue hairstyle of the era. 4

Before his rebirth, Huo Yuanjia saved Lan Yi after a Dongyang ronin broke his ribs. In Lan Yi's earlier 1909 trial, Huo was later poisoned; Lan Yi retaliated by assassinating Dongyang merchants and military officials, triggering a citywide manhunt. Scathach, Philia's daughter, hid him during that pursuit. 11 32

In his previous life, Lan Yi was repeatedly hunted and summoned for interrogation rather than accepted as a legitimate River Civilization King.
