Background / History

Aizen publicly served as the gentle, capable Captain of the Fifth Division. Fourth Division members admired his kindness and credited him with personally reducing Hollow incidents in the Human World, where he allegedly destroyed a Gillian with a gesture 86 166. Behind this persona, he was regarded by Duan Mu as Soul Society’s greatest individual threat: a cautious planner whose power lay as much in his intellect and mastery of combat as in Kyōka Suigetsu 65.

He approached Duan Mu at the Comprehensive First Aid Station and recruited him as a Fifth Division instructor, maintaining a cordial manner while both parties remained suspicious of the other 166. Aizen later used Tōsen Kaname’s appearance to deceive and severely injure Duan Mu outside Central 46, demonstrating that his Complete Hypnosis could replicate not only appearance but Spiritual Pressure, physical sensations, and personal combat habits 179.

Aizen’s scheme involved the murder and replacement of Central 46’s Sages and Judges through spiritual bodies controlled by Inaba Kagerōza and Tōsen.
