Interview
Lu Ban didn't choose coffee shops like Bucket or Beverly Hills, not because he was worried about reporters asking him to pay, but mainly because the coffee in those shops was just so-so, and he felt uncomfortable in a public place, so he didn't want to contribute to the sales of these high-end, artsy shops.
He invited the reporter to his home.
Fortunately, the reporter was a boy, so it wasn't a big problem.
Um?
It seems like there's a pretty big problem.
Never mind.
Lu Ban heard his phone ring and saw that it was a reporter calling. He answered the phone and was directed upstairs.
The furniture in the house has been completely renovated. Lu Ban went to the furniture store with his Air Friend to buy it, and it matches the family's aesthetic. For this reason, the furniture store staff looked at Lu Ban with strange eyes.
"Please come in, please come in."
Lu Ban noticed that the reporter was a young man, about the same age as himself, and his equipment was very professional, much more so than Lu Ban's own.
"Hello, I'm Wang Qing, a reporter from ' Movie Report '. Hmm?"
The reporter, Wang Qing, sensed something was amiss as soon as she stepped inside.
Because there is a large mirror in the living room.
The mirror is almost directly opposite the wall where the door is located, above the sofa. The entire mirror covers most of the wall, so it can be seen as soon as you enter the room.
Like the layout of a barbershop, such a mirror may make the room seem spacious, but seeing yourself in the mirror as soon as you walk in still feels a bit strange.
"The placement of these mirrors is quite unique."
Wang Qing used praise to cover up her momentary hesitation.
"Yes, because my roommate has a mirror that he can only see in, so I put one in the living room for him so he can watch TV normally."
Lu Ban spoke frankly.
"Roommate? Only in the mirror?"
Wang Qing was somewhat suspicious.
He knew that Lu Ban came from a background of making horror and suspense videos. People like that usually had an unhappy childhood or came from a backward mountainous area with a strong folk culture. They might also be very religious, and have a thing for ghosts and monsters.
Therefore, it is normal for people to sometimes act strangely.
"Yes, please sit down, please sit down."
Lu Ban for Wang Qing to sit down, but just as the reporter was about to sit down, he raised his hand to stop her.
"Wait a minute, you can't sit here, my Air Friend is right there."
Lu Ban gestured for Wang Qing to sit on the other side.
"?"
Wang Qing was completely baffled.
He looked closely at the spot he had just been sitting on. The sofa was spotless and completely empty. He had initially thought "Air Friend" was some kind of pet's code name, but now it seemed it really was just air.
Is this person making a joke at themselves?
Wang Qing had some doubts, but she obediently sat down on the other side.
"Director Lu, our interview doesn't need to be too formal, just like a chat."
He took out a voice recorder and then picked up his camera.
Can I take a picture of you first?
"No problem."
Lu Ban sat on the sofa, thought for a moment, and then sat down naturally without posing.
Wang Qing raised her camera and took a picture of Lu Ban.
Normally, in face tracking mode, the viewfinder will display a small square to track the face. Now that there is only Lu Ban in the lens, the viewfinder will naturally frame his face, allowing the lens to focus on his face.
However, when Wang Qing looked into the viewfinder, he discovered that in addition to the square on Lu Ban's face, there were three other squares.
The three squares around Lu Ban looked like family members standing next to him taking a family photo.
However, there was nothing inside those boxes except air.
Wang Qing gasped and quickly rubbed her eyes. The squares disappeared again, leaving only Lu Ban's slightly stiff smile.
"Are you done filming? My face is starting to feel tired."
Lu Ban urged.
"Immediately!"
Wang Qing didn't care about anything else and took several pictures in a row before putting away her camera.
"It shouldn't be broken."
He muttered to himself, then looked at Lu Ban.
"So I've prepared a few questions. First, what made you choose to shoot horror videos? We all know that this type of film is relatively niche, and very few directors have become famous through it."
"Well, to be honest, it's not that I chose the horror and thriller genre, but rather that the genre chose me. If possible, I would also like to make some epic blockbusters or heartwarming works, but unfortunately, I don't have that opportunity yet."
Lu Ban spoke the truth.
"Is that so?"
Upon hearing this, Wang Qing thought to herself that Lu Ban was quite good at showing off. Most people might say things like their own strengths or the influence of their background, but he went ahead and said that the subject matter had chosen him. This kind of statement is usually made by exceptionally talented geniuses, and they usually don't say it themselves, but rather it's someone else's evaluation.
"We all know that your videos and movies are usually adventures in which you are the main character. Have you ever thought about choosing other actors to play the lead roles?"
Wang Qing continued to ask questions.
"I haven't considered that issue. As it stands, my film can only star myself."
Lu Ban then spoke the truth.
You mean other people might not be able to match your acting skills?
"No, I don't think other people would be able to handle the filming process."
Lu Ban replied that although he didn't know if these video materials could be used from someone else's perspective, if it were someone else, unless they were the Chosen of the Gods, Lu Ban probably wouldn't have survived until the end of the mission.
"You're very confident."
Wang Qing sighed and then raised another question.
"So, what message do you want to convey to the audience through the plot design of these thriller and horror films?"
"I simply recorded what I saw and heard as it was. As for interpretation, that's up to each person. If I had to say one thing, I would say cherish life."
Lu Ban was very serious.
"Is that so?"
Wang Qing found Lu Ban's idea rather unusual.
"Also, I learned that you recently visited the now-demolished Nanhua Private Renji Hospital. Were you there to gather material? Is your next film related to it?"
"Yes, that's right. Actually, my next film is already in production. I plan to participate in the upcoming Yannan University Student Film Festival and hope to win an award."
Lu Ban's best quality is honesty.
"This is really big news, but... but the Yannan University Student Film Festival is next month, right? Is there enough time to prepare the film?"
Wang Qing immediately perked up his ears; this was exclusive news for him.
"It should be fine. In fact, I've already prepared a short clip. Would you like to take a look?"
Lu Ban's words completely surprised Wang Qing.
