283. Accidental Death Insurance
The following day, Bai Qiquan arrived at the company.
Surprisingly, he was on tenterhooks last night, afraid that some strange thing would suddenly appear from under the bed or somewhere else and kill him, but he didn't see anything when he fell asleep.
On the contrary, the back pain he had developed from sleeping on the hard bed in the dormitory seemed to be relieved a lot after sleeping in the new house for one night. He felt refreshed, as if he had just changed his underwear to welcome the new year.
"This mattress is pretty good. It's probably one of those massage mattresses that can promote sleep. The pillow is probably some kind of high-tech medicinal pillow that makes it hard to be woken up."
If I get the chance, I'll ask Director Lu to get one for my girlfriend too.
Bai Qiquan thought to himself.
The company was still empty; there wasn't even a receptionist.
But Bai Qiquan had a feeling that someone had already been here. Could it have been the cleaning lady?
He sat at his workstation and took out his laptop.
Many people in the film and television industry prefer to use Apple computers, not to show off, but because their software is comprehensive and their video processing technology is unique. Although they are not great for gaming, they are quite good for video editing.
Lu Ban disregarded cost and directly provided Bai Qiquan with a brand-new machine.
He tried installing the game that night; it could run, but it was incredibly hot.
It's possible, but unnecessary.
Bai Qiquan immediately uninstalled the game completely.
After waiting in his office for a while, Bai Qiquan saw a man who was much older than him walk in.
"I'm here to start work. Are you HR?"
The man saw that Bai Qiquan looked like someone who worked there and asked him a question.
"Actually, I'm here to start a new job."
Bai Qiquan said awkwardly.
"Um?"
The man was embarrassed. He pretended to look around at the scenery and pulled up a chair to sit down.
A little while later, another woman who looked older walked into the company.
"Who should I contact for onboarding?"
She looked at the two people sitting opposite each other.
"We're all here to start our jobs."
Bai Qiquan and the man immediately answered.
This scene repeated itself several times, and Bai Qiquan realized that he didn't recognize many of the people present, and he had never even heard of their names.
Those in their circle are not like ordinary viewers who only know directors, producers, screenwriters, cinematographers, post-production staff, etc.; those who are famous are very famous.
Based on the salary Lu Ban offered, Bai Qiquan felt he could easily have secured those famous post-production photography jobs, so it was strange that he didn't choose them.
Is there something special about these people?
Am I the hidden mastermind?
Bai Qiquan couldn't help but have wild thoughts.
Lu Ban arrived on time at 9:30.
He was holding a stack of documents, while Qin Tiantian stood beside him, empty-handed, as if she were there for a vacation.
"You can act as the receptionist for now; you can play games and watch videos."
Lu Ban pointed to the table at the front desk.
"Am I not the brand ambassador? How did I become the front desk staff?"
"Look, the first person people see when they enter the company is you. Isn't that what a brand ambassador is?"
Lu Ban was very serious.
"Nobody would believe you."
Although Qin Tiantian expressed her dissatisfaction, she still obediently sat down at the front desk.
"Wow, this computer has great specs, a 3090! I've decided, I'm the receptionist, and nobody can take this position from me."
After settling Qin Tiantian in, Lu Ban walked into the office, gave a brief greeting, and began distributing contracts.
"Director Lu does everything himself; it seems he values us a lot."
Bai Qiquan thought to himself that even the labor contract in front of him seemed much more serious now.
He glanced through the contract and saw that it included additional personal accident insurance.
"Um?"
Bai Qiquan initially thought it was just ordinary employee insurance provided by the company, including things like work-related injuries, but upon closer inspection, he realized something was wrong.
"Including but not limited to accidents such as fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, and meteorite impacts, as well as man-made accidents including car crashes, shipwrecks, plane crashes, and rocket crashes."
The work injury clauses listed here are so numerous they're frightening, and in addition to common natural disasters and man-made calamities, there are also some situations that you'd never even encounter.
"What kind of injuries are caused by being eaten by wild animals or similar creatures? And what about schizophrenia caused by hallucinations? Is the work we do really that dangerous?"
Bai Qiquan couldn't help but mutter to himself.
Looking at these insurance policies, he felt that he shouldn't be working in the film and television industry, but rather in a special forces team that saves the world.
Could it be that Lu Ban will pull out a strangely shaped stick and suddenly turn into light?
"These are all just in case. You know, although you mainly work on the later stages, you may inevitably come into contact with some unpleasant things, so the insurance must be written in detail, and your beneficiaries must be clearly listed to ensure that the other party can receive the money after something happens to you."
Lu Ban answered Bai Qiquan's question.
Why does it feel like something bad is already going to happen?
Bai Qiquan overheard the guy next door muttering something.
Since Lu Ban was paying for it anyway, no one said much and signed the papers. I'm just editing a video and doing post-production. What, am I going to get eaten by a monster from a movie?
In addition, there are some standard contracts such as confidentiality agreements.
After signing, Lu Ban put away all the agreements.
"Everyone, the reason I recruited you is because my next film requires a lot of post-production work. I expect the film to be released globally simultaneously between the second half of this year and the first half of next year. Therefore, we don't have much time."
Lu Ban then said, glancing at Qin Tiantian, the mascot who was already playing Apex Legends and had delivered two packages already.
"Wait a minute, with only six months, how could we possibly complete that level of special effects by ourselves?"
A man raised his hand to ask a question.
"Yes, Director Lu, your previous special effects were so amazing. We came here with a learning mindset. If we want to finish this in such a short time, we'll need to increase our manpower several times over."
A woman echoed this sentiment.
For a typical urban film, post-production takes about a few months. For period dramas with special effects, it takes longer, and for science fiction and fantasy films, it takes at least a year. As for the special effects that Lu Ban's previous films had, even if a top-notch team were fully committed, it would take at least a year or two to achieve the same level of quality.
Therefore, many domestic special effects studios were curious about Lu Ban 'Lu Ban production process and where he got such a skilled special effects artist.
But now it seems that Lu Ban doesn't have any special effects artists at all?
Or perhaps he himself is a special effects artist?
"You don't need to worry about that. I've almost finished the core parts. You just need to handle some simple processing."
As Lu Ban spoke, he pointed to the screening room.
"Let's take a look at the original footage and the results first."
