A Feng Shui Blessed Land
In autumn, the summer heat of Jiangcheng has not yet dissipated, and the riverside is even more humid. With each breath, the viscous air seems to seep into the lungs, blocking all the alveoli. After walking a few steps, one feels suffocated.
The mountains are lush and green, and the Ling River flows quietly, with a thin mist floating on its shimmering surface, like a fairyland.
Li Zijian wiped his sweat with a tissue. Although the air in the mountains was fresh, for people in the city, any place without air conditioning was not a good place.
Moreover, he had walked a mountain path and was already panting heavily from exhaustion.
"Brother Li, are you sure you can handle this?"
Lu Ban glanced back.
"You go first, I'll catch up later."
Li Zijian told two employees to follow Lu Ban first, while he and the others followed behind.
After walking for about twenty more minutes, they finally arrived at their destination, Zhuomo County, located on the outskirts of Jiangcheng.
This place used to have a maximum population of 5,000, but as young people gradually moved to Jiangcheng, by the 1990s, there were less than 30 households left.
Later, the town was relocated, and everyone moved to Jiangcheng, leaving the town completely abandoned.
Standing at the entrance of the town, Lu Ban could still see the dilapidated shops. One of them seemed to be a breakfast shop, with a large iron pot inside that was covered in rust, and the tables and chairs that were rotten and moldy due to long-term dampness.
"This is a great place for hauntings."
Lu Ban said.
"Don't talk nonsense."
Li Zijian said, "I don't know why, but I feel a chill down my spine."
"This is the town center. There's a small village on the mountain. The people there were the last to move away."
He pointed to the green hills not far away.
What's over there?
Lu Ban pointed to the other side, towards the direction of the Ling River.
There was something like a Ferris wheel there, it looked like some kind of Amusement Park.
"Huh, what's that?"
Li Zijian also found it strange, so he asked the staff member next to him.
"I don't know, it's not marked on the map."
The staff hurriedly searched through the documents, but found no clues.
Lu Ban walked in that direction, climbed up a high slope, and took a look.
It was an Amusement Park, an abandoned Amusement Park.
Inside, there are Merry-go-round, Ferris wheels, bumper cars, etc., all of which are very old and look like they haven't been used for at least ten years.
The Amusement Park was deserted, standing alone on the banks of the Ling River, like an abandoned child.
"There's an Amusement Park here? Brother Li, why didn't you tell me sooner?"
Lu Ban glanced back at Li Zijian, who had climbed up.
Just then, he saw Li Zijian's face turn ashen, and he lunged at him like a corpse that had been dead for a long time.
Lu Ban blinked and saw that Li Zijian was panting heavily as he struggled to climb the hillside.
"No, damn it, did someone build an illegal structure here without registering it?"
Li Zijian was stunned when he saw the Amusement Park.
Is there something wrong with the entire Amusement Park in this remote, desolate place?
Moreover, the roads leading to and from the Amusement Park are overgrown with weeds and have been washed away by rain, making them almost invisible.
"Illegal building?"
Lu Ban glanced at the dilapidated Amusement Park again.
"Yes, back in the last century, some wealthy people liked to do this kind of construction work, building mansions in the mountains without reporting to their superiors, so naturally they weren't recorded in the city planning documents. I guess this Amusement Park was built by someone before, then abandoned, and the land was sold off along with it."
Li Zijian didn't feel like he'd made a profit. This kind of abandoned Amusement Park definitely couldn't be used anymore. Demolishing it would require extra manpower, which was much more troublesome than clearing wasteland.
"Anyway, we're not going to start any construction there, so let's just leave it at that."
He patted Lu Ban on the shoulder.
Only Lu Ban, before turning around, seemed to catch a glimpse out of the corner of his eye that something moving was passing by the Merry-go-round in the abandoned Amusement Park.
He looked again carefully, but there was nothing there.
Back in town, the group conducted a survey. The town's architectural style was acceptable, but it needed to be tested to see if the foundation was solid and whether it could still be used. This investigation took up another whole day, and by the time the work was finished, it was already evening.
The mountains turned cold again at night, with gusts of wind and damp air that made Lu Ban's old rheumatism flare up. Unlike many movies, Lu Ban and the surveying team were not going to stay overnight in the abandoned town, much less explore the Amusement Park at night. They planned to walk back to their car by the roadside, drive back to Jiangcheng, and finish the rest of the work the next day.
After taking a couple of steps, a surveying team member suddenly called out.
"Hey, did you bring the theodolite?"
He looked around but couldn't find the equipment.
"Was it placed on that hillside over there?"
In the pitch-black night, someone spoke.
"Maybe, I'll go back and get it."
The team member said that he immediately turned back with a flashlight, while the others stayed behind to wait for him.
Li Zijian turned around and could see that the person's figure quickly disappeared into the path, leaving only the light of the flashlight flickering on the rugged and winding road.
Soon, the light reached the small hill overlooking the Amusement Park.
However, after waiting for a while, Li Zijian felt that something was wrong.
The flashlight beam seemed to freeze there, Motionless, and the teammates didn't return.
"Is he unable to find it?"
Someone asked.
"The flashlight beam hasn't changed."
Another person said.
"Could something have happened? I'll go check it out?"
Someone made a suggestion.
"Wait, listen."
Someone suddenly made a sound, silencing the others.
All around was silent, not even the chirping of insects could be heard. In the damp mountains, white mist appeared and disappeared in the moonlight. Just then, a unique sound came from the mountain wind.
It was singing.
I don't know what the male and female voices were humming, the melody was simple and unadorned.
The singing seemed to be coming from the direction of that small town.
"Who the hell is singing in the middle of the night?!"
Someone couldn't help but curse and ask, their voice trembling slightly.
"You all stay here and don't move. I'll go take a look."
Lu Ban then spoke up.
Li Zijian wanted to stop him, but thinking back to Lu Ban's previous exploration video, he felt that he might have really seen something.
He chickened out and let Lu Ban leave.
Lu Ban took a flashlight and walked towards the hillside. The singing had stopped sometime earlier, and the area around him was as quiet as a distant starry sky.
The flashlight could only illuminate the road ahead. On the dark mountain path, there were jagged rocks and overgrown weeds. The path, which had been trodden by so many people just moments before, now seemed as if no one had ever set foot on it before, making each step difficult.
Just then, a gust of wind suddenly blew by, causing the waist-high grass to sway and rustle.
Lu Ban glanced ahead and saw a small child standing in the haystack where the grass and trees had been bent by the wind.
The child was wearing tattered clothes, his hair was disheveled and mostly gone, his eyes were dark and empty, and he had an old, rusty lock hanging around his neck.
Blinking, Lu Ban saw that there was nothing there.
Lu Ban looked around with his [True Sight] but found nothing more.
He continued forward and soon arrived at the hillside.
At this moment, Lu Ban saw that the team member's flashlight had fallen to the ground, its light shining.
The team member stood beside the hillside, kneeling with his hands raised high, as if he were paying homage to some dignified and powerful person.
Lu Ban came up behind him and patted the person on the shoulder.
The team member turned around, his expression blank, his eyes devoid of pupils, just pure white. He mumbled something under his breath, a soft murmur like the wind blowing through the grass.
Lu Ban knocked him unconscious with a flashlight.
He mentioned this team member, and suddenly, inspired, he glanced at the direction the team member had just been worshipping.
He saw that the dilapidated Amusement Park at the foot of the hill was now brightly lit, with all the equipment operating normally and emitting cheerful yet eerie music.
There wasn't a single person in the Amusement Park.
