Aside from the dim yellow light, there was nothing but endless darkness.
The fog near the carriage remained a bleak gray-white, while the parts farther away had already fallen into the gloom.
Last Words materialized in Lu Ban's hand, strengthening his hearing as he tried to catch the sounds around them.
However, Lu Ban heard nothing at all.
"We can only keep moving forward."
Trist's expression was somewhat grim.
If they encountered a monster, he could shoot it dead with his pistol.
If they encountered something he couldn't defeat, he could lie down and obediently wait for death.
What he feared most was this neither-here-nor-there situation—being stranded in a foreign land, unable to die completely yet barely able to stay alive.
Fortunately, as a battle-hardened Chosen of the Gods, he knew how to adapt to circumstances.
After the carriage adjusted its direction slightly, it continued forward, moving away from the stone statue.
Lu Ban saw the hazy shadow of the statue being swallowed by the thick fog, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Although there was no lamplight, at least there was still a gravel road.
The carriage proceeded slowly along the gravel road.
Trist remained vigilant, surveying the fog.
The shapes of the fog were constantly changing. At times, they formed scenes that seemed vaguely familiar.
Staring for too long might cause hallucinations.
Trist saw the fog seeming to form some kind of animal, yet also resembling buildings—some dense, some faint, layered one over another.
Just as that mass of fog approached the carriage—or rather, as the carriage approached that mass of dense fog—Trist discovered a human figure within it!
"!"
He seized the reins with one hand and raised the muzzle of his gun with the other.
"Did you see that?"
Trist asked Lu Ban behind him.
