There were many reef caves along the coast. Most of them had been formed by seawater eroding the rocks over the years. They were extremely concealed, and large schools of fish might gather inside. If someone ventured in during low tide, they might be submerged by the incoming tide afterward, making it somewhat dangerous.
"Thanks. Here, take this."
Lu Ban stuffed two dried fish into the hands of the reluctant-looking child from Drywater Town. After sending him away, he turned his attention back to the reef cave.
The cave was not very deep, but the sun had already risen, making the entrance appear rather gloomy.

His sanity had only just dropped because of what had happened with A Yu. Now, he was clearly about to examine the corpse of a nonhuman creature. If he did not handle things properly, he might suffer another bout of mental confusion. Therefore, Trist decided to have Lu Ban test the waters first. If Lu Ban showed no reaction, he would follow after him.
In The Silent Land, this method of exploration was highly practical when a team was investigating. After all, when they encountered monsters or extremely bizarre scenes, it was better for them to take turns than for everyone to lose sanity at once.
Furthermore, once a person's sanity dropped to a certain level, they could experience all kinds of temporary madness: fainting, hysteria, mental confusion, distorted perceptions, depression, and more. Just now, Trist had nearly shot himself to end his own life. It had been extremely dangerous.
