Background / History

Qin Shang spent his early life isolated and introverted. After graduating from vocational school, his mother, Li Youwei, died by suicide after being defrauded into debt by the pyramid-scheme organization Skull. Her suicide note was publicly exposed, leading to Qin Shang being ostracized by his peers. 17 36

Seeking revenge, Qin Shang infiltrated Skull, became a confidant of its leader, and absconded with the organization’s funds, contributing to its collapse. He later spent two years in prison. Years afterward, he learns that his mother’s death may also be connected to an overseas casino called Voyage. 17 36 37

His wife, Jiang Qiqi, disappears under circumstances connected to the Path of the Gods. Qin Shang binds a Con artist Character Card associated with her disappearance and is drawn into the Death Train dungeon. He treats the game as both a lead to find Qiqi and a possible way to fight his late-stage brain cancer. 1 16 17

Appearance

Qin Shang is a handsome young man with delicate but sharply defined features and a firm jaw. 1 35

  • Calm, composed appearance even under pressure. 35
  • Pale blue system interface appears when he accesses his Character Card or item functions. 44
  • Can wear the Cursed Red Skirt, though doing so visibly embarrasses him. 44

Personality

Qin Shang is observant, suspicious, and highly pragmatic. Thrown into a dungeon full of hidden roles and conflicting objectives, he quickly concludes that no companion can be trusted completely. He prioritizes survival and is willing to consider ruthless options, including exploiting other players’ deaths for clues. 2 7 9

Despite this cynicism, he is not indifferent to others. His longing for Jiang Qiqi leads him to protect the frightened Xiao Fen twice before learning she is the God Slayer. He keeps the Path of the Gods secret from Xu Mingyang because he fears dragging his friend into danger, and he honors Xiao Fen’s final request to contact her brother. 5 16 23 30

Abilities & Skills

[Inheritance]

Qin Shang’s native Con artist skill automatically grants him a deceased player’s hints and quests, but forces him to inherit the associated side quest as well. 7 16

  • Cannot be actively triggered. 16
  • Has a thirty-minute cooldown after activation. 16
  • Does not grant quest information or hints if Qin Shang personally kills the target. 16
  • Lets him obtain deceased players’ class skills through inherited quests during the Death Train instance. 6 7

[Decipher]

An inherited Teacher-class skill that allows Qin Shang to understand written text, including languages he otherwise cannot read. 7 16

  • Allows him to read the Death Train diaries that other surviving players cannot understand. 26 27
  • Functions in reality as well as inside dungeons. 18
  • Was essential to uncovering the background of Jack, Mary, El, and the train’s curse. 21 27

[Heal]

A Doctor-class healing skill available through his inherited abilities during the Death Train exploration. 24 28

  • Restores injuries sustained during the dungeon. 34
  • Has a cooldown after use. 24 28

Deduction

Qin Shang excels at reconstructing dungeon rules from incomplete clues, player behavior, and contradictions in the scenario.

  • Deduces that the Death Train group contains roles beyond ordinary passengers, including a Team Leader, God Slayer, and Accomplice. 7
  • Identifies Xiao Fen as the God Slayer and determines that the deceased Thug was the hidden liar. 29 30
  • Solves the train’s central rule by recognizing that remaining silent, still, and non-hostile prevents El from attacking. 28
  • Recognizes that the Death Train is a cursed loop involving Jack and Mary’s divided personalities. 21 28

Potential Evolution: [Plunder]

At the Order Realm, [Inheritance] is expected to evolve into [Plunder]. 43

  • Would allow a Con artist to directly obtain other players’ hidden clues in multiplayer dungeons.
  • Unlike [Inheritance], it would not require Qin Shang to take on the deceased player’s side quest. 43

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Cursed Red Skirt — A high-quality Death Train reward associated with El. Qin Shang can summon a Red Skirt Phantom to obstruct attackers. 28 31
    • When worn, grants [Void], briefly making him immune to physical attacks, and [Night Vision]. Both skills have five-minute cooldowns. 31 44
    • Its passive [Rollback] can place the wearer into a time loop, providing additional room for error in dungeon exploration. 33 44
  • Fallen Cross — Obtained after the Elder Priest’s death. Its [Purify] effect restrains evil spirits, but causes emotional backlash to the user. 43 44
  • Holy Cross — Consumable item with a [Purify] effect effective against enemies below the Order Realm. 28 44
  • Rename Card — Consumable reward from the Death Train. 28 43

Story Role / Major Arcs

Death Train: First Exploration

Qin Shang enters the Death Train as a Passenger after binding his Con artist Character Card. He conceals his profession after learning that Con artists are public enemies and that a God Slayer appears in Con artist-related dungeons. 1 3

After the Teacher dies, Qin Shang’s [Inheritance] grants him her side quest and [Decipher]. He uses the inherited information to identify the dungeon’s hidden role structure and begins independently investigating the train rather than relying on the other players. 6 7 9

Death Train: Second Exploration and Clear

Qin Shang re-enters the corrupted dungeon with El’s Letter and uncovers the importance of Carriage No. 3. Using [Decipher], he reads diaries documenting the curse surrounding Jack, Mary, El, and the priest responsible for the looping tragedy. 21 26 27

He clears the main quest by correctly acting on the dungeon’s rule of balance: he remains still, silent, and non-aggressive before El, allowing the group to pass without fighting her. He receives experience, items, and points for the initial clear. 28

Qin Shang later exposes Xiao Fen as the God Slayer and identifies the Thug as the hidden liar. Xiao Fen reveals that the Path of the Gods will erase her if she fails her mission, then asks Qin Shang to deliver a final message to her brother. 29 30

Escape from the Surviving Players

After the dungeon’s completion, Eagle of Justice and Buddha Saves the Predestined try to murder Qin Shang for the reward associated with killing a Con artist. Qin Shang uses the Cursed Red Skirt to delay them and escapes into Carriage No. 2. 31 32

El manifests during the confrontation, kills Buddha Saves the Predestined, and frightens Eagle of Justice into retreating. Qin Shang uses [Heal] before being returned to reality. 33 34

Contact with the Red-robed Cult Master

In Yanjing, Qin Shang locates Yuan Fang, the Red-robed Cult Master, to fulfill Xiao Fen’s request. Yuan Fang recognizes him as a Con artist but does not attack him, explaining that Con artists are valuable to God Slayers and that killing him in reality offers no reward. 38 39

Yuan Fang then provides Qin Shang with foundational knowledge about player abilities, realms, Con artist stigma, the future evolution of [Inheritance], and item usage. 40 41 42 43 44
