After they had settled on the date of their return, Chapter Master Affos had ordered the brothers to collect as many rare animals as possible. Once they returned, they planned to sell a batch to the Rogue Traders—or rather, to the nobles of the Imperium.
To be safe, they had also brought along a pile of gene cells from those animals, so they could clone them when the time came. But the corruption of Chaos was truly everywhere!
"Why not have Dullens watch over them? He could hold a Codex Astartes and chant from it every moment of every day?"
Gers had to admit that he had come up with a fairly decent terrible idea.
Chapter Master Affos and Quan Tiehua exchanged a glance. They both saw approval in each other's eyes.
The only question was whether Dullens would agree. After all, as a candidate for the position of Chapter Chaplain, he usually prayed to his Battle-Brothers. He had never prayed to animals before.
Quan Tiehua imagined the scene in his mind. Then he could not help wondering: if the Old Horse saw one of his loyal children of the Imperium holding the Codex Imperial Creed he had once written and praying to the God-Emperor before a group of animals, how angry would he become?
For some reason, he was actually looking forward to it!
Quan Tiehua sniffed, then declared righteously, "It's all for the Imperium! I think Brother Dullens... will agree!"
