Putting Adam on Trial
New York.
520 Apartment.
"Adam, are you sure you're not bringing a female companion?"
Monica asked.
"Sure."
Adam said speechlessly, "I've said it a hundred times already."
"I just want to confirm it again."
Monica pinned a large blue thumbtack to the wedding banquet planning board. "Let me tell you, once the seating is booked, you can't invite your female companions even if you want to."
"I know."
Adam laughed and said, "Even if I find a new female companion during this time, I will resolutely not invite her, so as not to affect your seating arrangement, okay?"
"OK".
Monica nodded in satisfaction.
"Adam, you're quite the ladies' man."
Rachel chimed in, "No matter how good your girlfriend is, she can't hold you back."
"Yes."
Phoebe chimed in, "Max is so cool, how could you bear to break up with her?"
"I am a cloud, a free cloud."
Adam laughed and said, "Wherever the wind blows, I'll drift there; I won't land unless I encounter cold air."
"Even if you encounter cold air and it turns into rain and falls to the ground, once the sun shines and the air warms up, you will fly up again and start floating freely once more."
Monica scoffed, "Right?"
"A bride is a bride; her understanding of things like marriage, love, and freedom is just different."
Adam smiled noncommittally and said, "Very insightful."
"Seriously."
Phoebe asked, dissatisfied, "Why did you break up with Max?"
"What a jerk!"
Rachel's rant.
"A denunciation meeting."
Adam smirked and stood up, saying, "We can't stay here any longer, Chandler. Come on, I'll take you to choose a dress."
"Good."
Chandler readily agreed, but still consulted Monica first.
"You don't need to tell me that. It's your freedom to go wherever you want and do whatever you want."
Monica looked at everyone a little embarrassed, then whispered to Chandler, "You can go."
Adam watched this scene with amusement.
Adam had seen too many similar classic scenes in his previous life. Even after transmigrating, his loving parents had never interacted like this. Only the strong-willed Monica could make Adam see this familiar scene again.
He always asks his girlfriend or wife for permission before he can act.
Why does this happen?
It's very simple.
According to Sheldon's theory, psychological feedback is a more effective training method than positive feedback.
It's commonly known as "you're lusting after her body."
If you dare disobey, I won't let you into bed.
This tactic is incredibly effective during the honeymoon phase and the first few years of marriage.
Adam and Chandler made their escape.
But the conversation didn't end there.
The denunciation of Adam continued.
The main characters are Phoebe and Rachel, who constantly criticize Adam's womanizing ways and feel sorry for Max.
"Don't get agitated, they broke up amicably, and Max never blamed him."
Monica spoke a fair word.
"That's because MAX is a good person."
Phoebe retorted indignantly, "It only makes Adam seem more heartless and ungrateful."
"Adam is indeed a bit of a jerk, but to call him heartless and ruthless would be an exaggeration."
Monica explained, "He and Max made it very clear from the beginning that they were just friends but not quite lovers. They were very happy together afterward, Adam even helped her go to university. Last year, Max graduated and gave her a high-paying job, which helped her realize her dream and completely changed her life."
"But Max wants to get closer to Adam."
Rachel interrupted, "Isn't this a perfectly reasonable request?"
"That is indeed reasonable."
Monica nodded. "But Adam also has the right to refuse. He doesn't want to settle down now, so why force him to settle down?"
And was Adam able to settle down?
Max had already figured it out: with Adam's animalistic body, even if he got closer to her, he wouldn't be able to settle down and would cheat on her sooner or later.
Ending it early like this might not be a bad thing for MAX.
Was Adam really that beastly?
Phoebe and Rachel got excited when they heard this.
"That's what MAX told me."
Monica said somewhat embarrassedly, "You know Max, he's straightforward and outspoken, he dares to say anything... it shouldn't be a lie."
"And Chandler and I ran with him every morning, and no matter how far we ran, he never even got out of breath or his face turned red. His physical fitness was simply incredible."
Phoebe and Rachel were both lost in thought, seemingly preoccupied with something.
"After the breakup, apart from the initial unhappiness, MAX was actually quite relieved."
Monica continued, "They really broke up amicably, otherwise, given Max's personality, how could he possibly continue working for Adam without any resentment?"
"High-paying jobs are hard to find."
Phoebe said with envy and jealousy.
Speaking of this, she was genuinely envious and jealous of MAX.
The two had very similar experiences; both had an unhappy childhood and started working in society at a young age.
Before, Max was just a waitress, while she was a skilled massage therapist who was far superior to Max in every way.
But more than three years have passed.
Max transformed herself into an artist after attending university. Adam even opened a small book production company for her, where she earned a high income and enjoyed a privileged status, a true rags-to-riches story.
She is also a masseuse.
It's impossible not to feel some psychological letdown.
"MAX is not that kind of person."
Monica cautioned, "That kind of genuine happiness can't be faked."
"I know."
Phoebe immediately realized what was going on, suppressed her sourness, and said, "I just feel sorry for Max."
"I'm really Adam's future wife will be like?"
Rachel suddenly laughed.
"It's very likely that he will never get married."
Monica thought for a moment and said, "He has a tendency not to get married."
"He's so rich, so handsome, and so virile. He might even acquire another nationality and marry a lot of wives in the future."
Phoebe complained, "Then they made them all wear masks so other men couldn't see them."
"..."
Monica said speechlessly, "It's not like there's only one place in the world where you can marry many wives, and you're wearing a mask to prevent other men from seeing you? Come on!"
"You think too highly of him."
Rachel laughed and said, "Don't be fooled by how he looks like an animal now. That's because he's young and playful. When he gets older and wants to start a family, you'll see if he's still as capable as he is now."
He also married many wives?
We'll be lucky if we can hold onto even one!
Monogamy has become a universal value because it protects not only women, but also men!
"Haha, Rachel is right."
Upon hearing this, Phoebe burst into laughter.
Monica smiled, her expression one of agreement.
There are many asymmetrical battles between men and women.
Although Monica and her friends didn't know classic proverbs like "youthful ignorance leads to old age tears" or "there are no bad lands, only oxen that die from overwork."
But they did understand this meaning, and they had verified it thoroughly in their various relationships, always receiving a positive answer.
This is the source of their confidence.
When it comes to matters of the heart, women are always the ultimate winners!
