After fleeing a passage filled with insects, he emerged before three people gathered around a wooden table in the cavern.

• Shade received a trial from Father of Infinite Tree to help mortals complete the Thousand-Eyed Phantom Butterfly ritual and earn an attendant’s favor, with Thaumaturgy and Mermaid information as rewards.
• Shade entered Wormhole Cave and found its narrow passage filled with holes crawling with worms and insects.
• Shade fled the passage, transformed into Red Butterflies, and flew out into a vast underground cavern.
• Shade descended to the cavern floor and found a witch, a clergyman carrying Alchemy Items, and a formally dressed man with an alchemical musket beside a huge wooden table.

Shade emerged into a strange cave and joined three competitors preparing a ritual to summon the Earth God. He agreed to help them leave, but first questioned their motives and identities.

• Shade drank a worm-based potion that let him speak with Maggie Blatcher, Aoli Perry, and Fred Lyman, who mistook his butterfly transformation for the power of the Butterfly God's follower.
• Maggie, Aoli, and Fred explained that the ritual's God-Favored One would lead them out of the Wormhole Cave, and Shade offered to help conduct it.
• Aoli explained that the feast at the table would summon the Earth God, whom Shade connected to the Earth Mother God.
• Shade asked each competitor to account for their motives, and Maggie said the cave was a god's church where killing was dangerous and cooperation could help them escape.

• Shade learned that Mr. Lehmann had come hoping to marry a woman with animal traits and that his distant aunt had lent him a musket.
• Shade confirmed his companions were ordinary people and helped them prepare a God Summoning ritual at the round table.
• Nun Perry recited the poem “Song of the Butterfly,” transforming the barren cave into a flower-filled feast ground as the Butterfly God descended.

• Shade introduced himself to Donald Antonio at the Seer Association, and they agreed to play a best-of-five card match with a wager of five Crowns and Antonio’s Special Rule Cards.
• As they played, Antonio told Shade about Innas Forest, Eldron Creek, the city’s mountains, and legends of elves and living Forest Stone Statues.

• A mysterious middle-aged soul appeared and explained that the black mud was the anger and malice of Mad Earth, then warned Shade that it was not a trivial matter.
• The stranger taught Shade the spell Earth Power - Healing Aura and asked him to help cleanse the earth's resentment in the real world.
• Shade woke with the new spell and suspected that Randall River Valley was in danger, while wondering whether the stranger had been a Chosen One.

Shade acquired the Earth Power - Healing Aura thaumaturgy after encountering black mud in a dream, then had a disturbing nightmare involving Mia and two Luvias. He traveled to Randall River Valley’s black market, where he arranged to buy rare plants and found two unusual Multi-Eyed One's Eye Coins.

• Shade woke from his dream when Little Mia pawed at his face, then wondered whether the black mud he had seen was tied to Randall River Valley.
• Shade dreamed of riding a giant Mia toward the Sun, then woke in terror after two Luvias stabbed him in the heart and stomach.
• Shade told Dorothy about part of the dream, and she joked that he might someday ride a cat like a knight.

Shade purified Miss Grande’s estate with Earth Power - Healing Aura and discovered that the clay Holy Grail it created could turn liquids into clear water. He and Luvia suspected the recurring land abnormalities in Randall River Valley were connected to the Mad Earth and possibly the Chosen Ones, and planned to investigate further.

• Shade used Earth Power - Healing Aura to cleanse the estate, and the freed soul said the land had gone mad before passing through the Gate of Death.
• Shade found that the clay Holy Grail contained Miracle Element and bore runes meaning “Pure Water”; Miss Grande said land abnormalities had recurred in Randall River Valley for centuries.

• Shade found Vanessa Benanis bound as a tiny puppet atop a castle model and learned that a childlike puppet was directing the show.
• Shade accepted the relic’s terms and entered the model stage, where the Mad Puppet Theater transformed him into a puppet and scattered his belongings.
• Shade discovered that he could cast spells without materials and summoned a toy-sized Moonbeam Greatsword.
