The atmosphere in the city was very wrong today. As Shade entered through Saint George Stone Bridge, he noticed two extra squads of police at the gates. Later, he saw that the citizens throughout the city all looked nervous.
Once he was in the carriage, the coachman answered Shade's question:
"Last night, quite a few people heard strange sounds coming from the docks. That blizzard was truly fierce. Even in winter, Moon Bay has never had weather like that. Some say they heard a dragon's cry last night, and that the legendary destruction of Moon Bay City is about to begin. Though the newspapers explained it as an unusual thunderstorm, no one thinks everything printed in the papers must be true, do they?"
The legend that the return of Dragons would bring about the destruction of Moon Bay City had circulated through the Moon Bay Area for who knew how many years. Everyone who lived here had grown up hearing similar stories and rumors. Therefore, when a "Dragon" might truly have appeared locally, people's first thought was not to question whether Dragons really existed, but whether they should leave as soon as possible.
Outsiders might find it hard to understand moving away for such a reason, but neither could outsiders understand the terror local families who had lived here for generations felt toward that prophecy.
The coachman himself had gone to bed late last night and had heard that strange Dragon Roar. But when Shade asked whether he would take his family away from the area, he smiled at the young Outlander:
"Move away? Where could we possibly move to? Moving costs money. Without money, even if we die, we can only die here. Outsiders always say Moon Bay City is rich, but not everyone here is wealthy."
