At midnight, with hardly anyone out in the city, Shade did not need to go all the way into the countryside to find a secluded crossroads. After listening to Belinder Big Ben strike twelve, he tossed the mirror the Doctor had given him into the middle of an intersection in the city.
Next, Shade circled the mirror three times to the left and three times to the right. When nothing happened, he finally shouted at it:
"Bill Dimon Schneider."
He repeated the name softly three times, then waited quietly for a few seconds before a mass of black light emerged from the previously spotless mirror surface.
A pitch-black cube rose from the black light and fell onto the ground nearby. As it continuously swelled and churned, it formed into Doctor Schneider, dressed in a black coat and carrying a suitcase.
"That was quite flashy."
Shade commented. The Doctor beckoned, making the mirror fly up, then handed it back to Shade:
"Keep this. It can be reused. Flashy? If a third person saw us, we would definitely be classified as bad guys without needing to say a word."
Then he smiled and looked Shade over:
"Let me guess where you were just now. With the young ladies?"
"How did you know? Is there lipstick on my face?"
Doctor Schneider teased:
"Your clothes are so neat, not even a crease on them. The gold buttons on your pockets, the shine of your leather shoes, and how tidy your hair is all show that someone carefully groomed you before letting you out."
Shade immediately recalled what had happened before he left the ship. He only remembered that the young ladies had indeed been very enthusiastic, and even the Witches seemed not to mind the "bold" behavior of their respective apprentices. If he had
