Huntington still had streetscapes of walls covered in steam pipes, with horse-drawn carriages, gentlemen, and barefoot children sharing the same city. What they had in common was the bustling grandeur of major cities, the mist curling through their urban areas, clothing styles dominated by gray and black, and winding alleys that connected the main streets in every direction.

Because of the terrain, Huntington's urban streets often had slopes. Besides flower girls and newsboys, there were also children carrying little baskets and peddling grapes along the streets.
