Strategic and Economic Importance

The Pantanal Great Swamp and its central lake make direct large-scale movement between Delarion and Weilun Dai'er extremely difficult. Any northern assault on the Kasonlik capital must instead proceed along the swamp's western or eastern edge, giving Huntington its reputation as the “Royal Capital Guard.” 847

Its position in northern Kasonlik also makes it one of the Old Continent's principal freight-distribution centers. Most large goods travelling north–south or east–west pass through the city. 847

The “Goddess in the Lake” is a longstanding local legend. Since the summer of 1853, several Huntington residents have claimed to encounter her outside the city, prompting unsuccessful Orthodox Church investigations. 848
