Early Death Game

Lin Yu entered the Death Game with the Deceiver Profession. He quickly inferred that Players’ professions correlated with their real-world identities, then concealed his own Profession by performing the role of a “Detective” able to verify identities. The performance succeeded and activated Deceiver’s ability to learn one hidden secret about a target. 4 5 6

His early strategy established a pattern he would continue throughout the story: create a credible persona, make others believe it, and use their belief as leverage. As “A Long,” he convinced another Player that he was a Soldier through a detailed cover story and demeanor. 78

He later encountered a crow-masked being calling itself the God of Truth, Falsehood, and Change. After removing its mask, the being revealed Lin Yu’s own face and stated that another answer to its question was “Lin Yu.” 61

Organizational Infiltration

Lin Yu initially declined the Tycoon’s invitation to join the Jiang’an Society, believing the Deceiver Profession made formal allegiance restrictive. Instead, he sought to preserve friendly ties while gathering information. 72

He subsequently planned to enter multiple organizations through separate identities, including the Freedom Alliance, Marauders, and Psychology Society. He joined the Psychology Society after revealing his real face to Li Nian, though he later made clear that he viewed the organization as a stepping stone and disliked it intensely. 108 217 594

Lin Yu eventually became associated with Order under the codename Director. When he publicly removed the “May May” social alias, Order and Freedom Alliance members learned his true codename; Li Hua, the Tycoon, and Grandmaster vouched for him. 764
