War (11)
The fighting on the right flank came to an abrupt end with the surrender of the nobles, leaving only a few players chasing after the fleeing soldiers. Meanwhile, on the main battlefield, a fierce battle involving tens of thousands of players continued between the two behemoths.
"Roar--"
The three heads of the Chimera roared in unison.
The dragon's head spewed out scorching flames, knocking down another Eagle Guards in front of it.
"Monster, die!"
With a fierce shout, Aiden, commander of the North Wind Eagle Guard First Regiment, plunged his spear into the head of the Chimera goat.
With a piercing wail, the goat's head rose high, spurting out a torrent of blood.
The three-headed monster had already killed more than a dozen of his men; he was so eager to kill the Chimera that he even ignored the threat from the sky.
However, just as Aiden thrust out his spear, excited shouts and a chilling dragon roar came from behind him.
"Noodles, charge with Dragon Roar Charge!"
"Two thousand experience points, here I come!"
First came the sound of metal clashing, followed by a soft thud as flesh and blood were pierced.
The six-meter-long lance pierced through Aiden and his eagle, who were caught off guard and still in the thrusting stance. Even the finest plate armor could not withstand the terrifying power of a lance swooping down from a hundred meters in the air.
Aiden, commander of the North Wind Eagle Guard First Regiment, died at the hands of the players.
The message "You have gained 2100 XP" appeared on the Steamed Bun's screen.
"Holy crap, he wiped out the elite monster in one hit!"
Steamed Bun shook off Aiden's corpse, let out a joyful cheer, and then rode the Wyvern to ascend once more.
In the command post, Robert watched the increasingly intense situation, sweat pouring down his forehead, whether from tension or the heat.
He wiped his face dry with luxurious silk and said solemnly to the staff officer beside him, "This can't go on any longer."
"At this rate of fighting, the soldiers won't last long."
"We must take the initiative to break the deadlock."
The staff officer hesitated for a moment before saying, "You mean..."
Robert said in a deep voice, "Go and ask Schroeder to intervene and support the front-line troops."
The staff officer asked in surprise, "But didn't you say that Lord Schroeder wouldn't need to cast a spell unless that Red Dragon appeared?"
Robert said, "We can only keep the Dragon Slayer Ballista as our last trump card. If Schroeder doesn't go to the front lines to provide support, I don't know how much longer our army can hold out."
His tone faltered.
"Aiden has been sacrificed."
"Yes, sir."
The staff officer understood his meaning, nodded in agreement, and went to invite the chief mage.
Soon, a man dressed in a gray robe arrived at the front line under heavy guard of the allied forces. He was Gray Eagle of the Arcane Hermit Order and the chief Court Mage of the Lakman Duchy — Schroeder.
A general in armor stood to one side and said respectfully, "Lord Schroeder, this is the situation."
"We hope you can use your magic to support the troops at the front."
Schroeder gazed at the menacing monsters battling the allied forces in the distance and said in a hoarse voice, "The Red Dragon's Flame Familiar?"
"I see."
He gazed at the high ground where the dragon vein monsters gathered, his eyes narrowed, and slowly raised his staff.
Ice Storm
In an instant, large patches of cold clouds appeared in the sky, first sprinkling down small ice shards, which then gradually formed hail, falling many hard, rock-like ice blocks.
The hailstones pelted the dragon vein monsters, not only striking them but also bringing a bone-chilling cold.
"Bang!"
Hailstones pelted a dragon-blooded Lizardmen, slowing his movements and gradually freezing his once fiery dragon blood, eventually turning him into a motionless ice sculpture.
And such things continued to happen within this highland area. Monsters were scrambling to escape the area, but many of them were turned into ice sculptures, still in the posture of fleeing.
These monsters, imbued with the fiery blood of the Red Dragon, would rather die in battle than be frozen to death by this spell without knowing why.
"Damn it, it's Ice Storm!"
Dolo was also unfortunately at the center of the spell's range.
Although he used his Bloodfire Battle Axe to block the hail from the sky, his movements gradually slowed down, and his blood gradually turned cold.
Sensing something was wrong, Dolo roared with all his might, "Lang Pu! Are you fucking dead behind me?!"
There's a spellcaster on the other side!
"Boom!"
A great earthquake was heard.
The Dragon Vein Ogre, over six meters tall, used its Flight Spell to arrive at the front line and landed with a thud.
Although Dolo had many conflicts with him, it would be difficult to explain to his master if he were to die here like this.
With that thought in mind, Lang Pu calmly pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses and raised the slender staff in his hand, which looked like a toothpick.
[Wall of Force]
A slanted, invisible force field wall appeared above the high ground.
Hailstones fell from the sky, but they were all blocked by the Wall of Force. Instead, they fell towards the Allied positions at the angle of its tilt.
Immediately, the allied forces screamed in agony, suffering heavy casualties.
Schroeder's expression changed drastically, and he quickly cast Shield Spell to block the incoming hail.
But the soldiers guarding him were not so lucky; some were killed by hailstones, while others were turned into ice sculptures.
Schroeder retreated to the rear of the line using Misty Step.
He looked up at the invisible force field in mid-air and muttered to himself, "Damn it, it's Wall of Force. Only the Disintegrate Spell can destroy it. There's such High-Level Spellcaster on the other side."
Keep in mind that Disintegrate Spell is Sixth-Circle Spell, and even Schroeder was powerless against this Wall of Force.
Meanwhile, on the monster army's side, Dolo, panting heavily, gritted his teeth and "thanked" them:
"Lang Pu, you came just in time! I almost froze to death in that spell!"
His tone grew increasingly angry.
"I'm fighting tooth and nail up front, but you're nowhere to be seen behind me!"
Lang Pu looked down at the Hobgoblin with disdain and said in a flat tone, "Commander Dolo, think about it carefully. You are leading the most elite troops of the Ember Nest, and you have been forced to this point by a mere group of humans."
Lang Pu's tone carried a hint of mockery.
"You said you would crush them easily, those were your exact words, so I gave you the chance to prove it, but look at you now—why do you still need to ask me for help?"
"Lang Pu, you..."
As Lang Pu continued his sarcastic remarks, Dolo's face grew increasingly red, but he couldn't find a rebuttal and could only swallow his anger.
Lang Pu looked up at the battlefield and slowly raised his staff.
"Watch closely, this is what you call easy crushing."
Wall of Fire
A wall of fire, stretching for tens of meters, appeared on the battlefield.
The raging flames mercilessly burned the unsuspecting Allied soldiers, and cries of agony filled the air.
The servants of the Ember Nest, bearing the blood of the Red Dragon, were utterly unafraid and surged into the wall of fire, chasing after the unfortunate enemies that had burst into flames.
