Background

Liana escaped Abyss Base alongside No. 0 and the Mechanical Puppet Firefly. While living in Shalin Town, she was No. 0’s closest companion and moral restraint: she openly condemned No. 0 for murdering people who insulted or mistreated her, insisting that their power should be used for proper purposes rather than violence 110.

When Ivette approached the pair under the false identity of their older sister, Liana was initially more willing to trust her than No. 0 was. She accepted Ivette as “Sister” after Firefly verified her history, and admired her reputation as the mercenary Nameless 111 112.

During the pursuit by the Holy Spirit Cult and other authorities, Liana accepted Ivette’s evacuation plan, carried the exhausted No. 0 through the sewers, and led Firefly through hostile territory. She defeated the corpse-ghost necromancer Ducha Besme by repeatedly striking the cores inside his artificial body, collapsing his zombie army in the process 121 128 129. When the Holy Judges cornered the group, she attempted to exchange her own life for No. 0 and Firefly’s freedom, but No. 0 stopped her and insisted on survival 130.

After No. 0 left following her rampage, Liana remained with Ivette and Firefly. Ivette later relocated them to Garde, arranged forged identities, and enrolled Liana at Spirit Vine Academy under the name Nanali Abera 131 150.

At school, Liana befriended Louisa and investigated the church connected to her friend’s missing parents. Her inquiry uncovered a recruitment scheme, corporate collaboration, police corruption, and human experiments that transformed volunteers into Humanoid Trees. Though horrified, Liana gathered evidence rather than attempting a suicidal rescue; Ivette forwarded it to the Firekeepers 158 159 160.
