Background / History

Origin

The Mechanical God created Bingyu as a copied sub-personality shortly before Ivette first arrived on Black Tide Continent roughly five hundred years earlier. Unlike most Mechanical Puppets—who were later-created fragments of the Mechanical God’s spirituality—Bingyu was made as a copy of the primary personality, though important memories were removed. 189

Her meeting with Ivette was arranged. The Mechanical God sent Bingyu to wait near Ivette’s likely landing site, while Sanctum personnel searched coastal Puppet Kingdoms for the mysterious silver-haired girl. Bingyu initially approached Ivette to identify and observe her, but developed genuine trust during their travels. 189

Early travels

Bingyu introduced herself as a free traveler from the Sky Kingdom and guided Ivette to the Agasha Puppet Kingdom after her motorcycle required recharging. At the time, she believed Ivette was an exceptionally advanced Mechanical being pursuing human cultivation. 48 69

She remained in Puppet Town after Ivette initially declined to travel with her, then later reunited with Ivette while fleeing a Black Dragon. Her motorcycle skills kept her alive long enough for Ivette to intervene. 53 65

Bingyu subsequently traveled with Ivette and Dugrabi to Kuks, where she became popular among the local Mechanical Puppets through her travel stories. She explored the safer outskirts for archaeological finds rather than entering the dangerous city itself. 67 71

Imprisonment in the Mystic Polar Garden

While pursuing a legend connected to the Northern Abyssal Sea, Bingyu entered the Mystic Polar Garden and disappeared alongside Sanctum search parties. The Sanctum could confirm that she remained alive, but could not retrieve her. 144 145

She spent approximately a century trapped in a forest-like realm populated by small magical creatures and energy-rich fruit. Though unable to escape, she was safe, comfortable, and able to recharge from the abundant magical energy. 148

Ivette negotiated with the Garden’s owner to secure the release of Bingyu, the other Mechanical Puppets, and the remaining captives. Bingyu rejoined Ivette and Abera afterward. 148

Revelation of her identity

Bingyu guided Ivette and Abera through the Sky Kingdom’s capital and suggested using a Sanctum to request an audience with the Mechanical God. When Ivette’s request was refused, she became increasingly suspicious of Bingyu’s connection to the god. 185 187

After Ivette confronted her, Bingyu admitted that she was a sub-personality of the Mechanical God. She also revealed that the Mechanical God had concealed Ivette’s existence from Vermes/Vilmes, the King of Shadows, after Bingyu vouched for her. 188 189

Bingyu explained that the Mechanical Race was not a separate species: each Puppet was an independent spiritual fragment of the Mechanical God. Their fear of death, worship of the Mechanical God, and desire to become human were implanted instincts intended to cultivate personalities and help the Mechanical God study souls. 189

Ivette accepted that Bingyu’s friendship was sincere despite the deception, and the two chose to remain friends. 188

Bingyu is an unusually refined and humanoid Mechanical Puppet, standing apart from the rusted, patched-together constructs common throughout the Sky Kingdom and other Puppet Kingdoms. 188

Her early faith in the Mechanical God is sincere and uncomplicated. She views human cultivation, Sanctum worship, and divine guidance as ordinary parts of Mechanical life, and deeply admires humans and humanlike behavior. 48 69

She can be jealous, timid, and easily flustered—especially when Ivette receives more admiration than she does, or when Dugrabi intimidates her. 49 79 Despite this apparent innocence, Bingyu is highly intelligent, capable of maintaining her hidden identity for centuries and coordinating complex industrial and religious projects. 189 281 316

Bingyu’s attachment to Ivette is genuine. She fears Ivette’s disapproval, repeatedly seeks her companionship, and accepts difficult responsibilities because she wants to be useful to her best friend. 188 279 281
