Join the Assassin Temple?
Long Haoyu froze slightly. He knew the man in white had come out while chasing after Cai'er.
He also knew that with Cai'er present, the man in white would not do anything excessive to him or Long Haochen.
But honestly, he had never expected the man in white to offer him an olive branch.
Cai'er had not expected the man in white to say that so suddenly either. A softness suddenly appeared in her fierce eyes.
The hand she had held protectively before Long Haoyu drew back, but she still watched him somewhat nervously.
She hated the Assassin Temple and hated everything about life there. She was afraid that Long Haoyu might suddenly accept the man in white's invitation.
From Long Haoyu, she had felt a warmth she had not known for a long time. He had been willing to stand in front of her at the slightest disagreement, and even face five Wolf Demons alone.
She truly, desperately needed that kind of care. If Long Haoyu agreed to join the Assassin Temple, that care might disappear.
"Thank you for thinking highly of me, Senior, but I am already an Attendant Knight. I belong to the Knight Temple and cannot join the Assassin Temple."
"One of our Knights' Ten Great Tenets is loyalty. Although the Six Great Sacred Temples all serve humanity, I still need to remain faithful to one path from beginning to end."
Long Haoyu gave a Knight's Salute and declined the man in white's invitation.
Joy immediately appeared on Cai'er's face. Long Haoyu's answer brought a sweet smile to her lips.
"Big sister, I can't speak. Thank you for protecting me just now."
"The Assassin Temple is a bad place. Big sister, you must never join the Assassin Temple."
Cai'er moved quickly. She suddenly grabbed Long Haoyu's hand and wrote in his palm.
Feeling Cai'er's soft fingers tracing against his palm, Long Haoyu revealed a gentle smile.
It was impossible not to feel sorry for a Cai'er like this!
But...
Seeing that, just like in the Original Work, Cai'er had mistaken Long Haochen for a girl—and now had mistaken him for one too—he could no longer smile.
"I'm your big brother, you know. You can't call me big sister." Long Haoyu teased softly.
Hearing this, Cai'er's eyes widened. She stared in disbelief at Long Haoyu, who looked even more feminine than she did.
This... was a big brother?
Cai'er lowered her head awkwardly, a flush appearing on her face as she no longer dared meet Long Haoyu's gaze.
With her head lowered, she took Long Haoyu's hand again. Her movements were a little stiff and slower than before.
"Thank you for protecting me, big brother."
"You look too much like a big sister, big brother. I mistook you."
Long Haoyu smiled faintly and said nothing. Instead, he took Cai'er's hand and slowly wrote, "It's all right. No need to thank me. It is only natural for boys to protect girls."
Feeling Long Haoyu's heartfelt concern, the smile on Cai'er's face grew even sweeter.
The man in white watched from the side. Though he was gratified to see Cai'er smile, his expression remained as impassive as before.
Especially after Long Haoyu refused the olive branch he had extended, he no longer spared any thought for Long Haoyu.
The man in white's indifferent gaze fell upon Cai'er as he said in a deep voice, "Since this little brother is unwilling to join our Assassin Temple, then so be it."
"Now, you should come back with me!"
Cai'er's body trembled. To her ears, the man in white's words were like a devil's murmur.
The sweet smile on her face instantly vanished, replaced by fear—and even more disgust. Her little head shook frantically.
"You know the mission you bear. You must go back!"
"This little fellow may have protected you from the Wolf Demons just now, but if I intend to take you away, he certainly cannot stop me."
"You should know very well that if you continue to be obstinate, he will only be injured by my hand."
The man in white spoke in a cold, forceful tone. He walked indifferently toward Cai'er, prepared to handle matters according to procedure.
As Cai'er watched the man in white approach, the fierceness in her eyes erupted once again. She glared at him savagely.
Long Haoyu gently caught Cai'er by the wrist and shook his head at her. Then No Edge appeared in his hand as he faced the man in white.
The man in white was taken aback. He said lightly, "Little fellow, you are no match for me. If you insist on protecting her, you will only be injured by my hand in the end."
"Senior, I am deeply grateful that you were willing to invite me into the Assassin Temple."
"But you said I would be injured by you. You never said you would take my life!"
"Then, as an Attendant Knight, as long as I still have one breath left, I should give the person I am meant to protect the protection she deserves!"
Long Haoyu's attitude was unwavering.
The Wufeng Heavy Sword in his hand gave him considerable enhancement.
But the gap between him and the man in white remained painfully obvious.
He even knew that Cai'er being taken away by the man in white was inevitable. Yet when he was truly in such a situation—
When he saw Cai'er's unwillingness, saw the man in white's persistence, and thought of all the trials Cai'er would have to endure—
He could not hold himself back. Even if the outcome could not be changed, he absolutely could not let the man in white take Cai'er away so easily.
At the very least, with the man in white still firmly adhering to the ideals of Cai'er's grandfather and parents, he wanted to make him realize something.
Girls should be protected.
Children should be cherished.
Even with responsibilities to bear, family should always come first.
Devoting oneself to the Holy Demon Continent was indeed a great ideal. He found the Assassin Temple's methods extreme, but he could understand them.
After all, when the nest is overturned, how can any egg remain intact? But while making Cai'er undergo trials, they should at least give her some care and warmth!
Right now, he was merely an ant trying to shake a great tree, but he still wanted to shake the Assassin Temple.
If he could make the man in white realize something, perhaps he could change, even by the slightest amount, the misery Cai'er would suffer after being taken away.
"Big brother, don't!"
"You're not his match!"
Cai'er hurriedly stopped Long Haoyu, writing faster than ever as she feared he might do something impulsive.
After trying to persuade Long Haoyu, Cai'er immediately darted in front of the man in white, her fierce eyes flashing with warning.
"You don't want me to hurt him?" the man in white asked. Cai'er hurriedly nodded.
The man in white continued, "Then promise me that you will not run away after returning with me, and I can refrain from hurting him."
Cai'er nodded again. From beginning to end, she glared fiercely at the man in white, terrified that he might suddenly attack Long Haoyu.
Having felt warmth from Long Haoyu, she did not want to see him suffer misfortune because of her.
"Big brother, I'll go back with him. He won't hurt me."
"You're not his match. You mustn't fight him."
Cai'er wrote quickly, then took off the Ring on her hand.
Seeing this, the man in white was about to shout sharply, but when he met Cai'er's murderous gaze, he finally gave up.
Cai'er slipped the Ring onto Long Haoyu's finger, then hurriedly wrote again, "Big brother, my name is Cai'er. Don't forget me, all right?"
After doing all this, Cai'er's violet eyes trembled slightly as she held her breath and looked at Long Haoyu.
She was afraid—afraid that the person who had suddenly brought her warmth would vanish just like that, becoming a fleeting memory.
Her little face was filled with tension as she waited anxiously for Long Haoyu's answer.
PS: Ugh, terminal laziness. No cure for it.
I'm crying to death.
And then...
I'll shamelessly ask for recommendation votes again. Thank you!!
