Background / History

The Sovereign of the Heavens is one of the Three Pure Ones and the master of the Jie Sect. While his primary sanctuary is Biyou Palace on Jin'ao Island in the East Sea, the sect also maintains a branch residence on Kunlun Mountain. His sect accepts those with destiny regardless of background, in contrast to Jade Void Palace's emphasis on lineage and origins. 22 23

After Holy Mother of Fire Spirit reported Lin Xuan's help with alchemy, the Sovereign sent a wisp of divine sense to assess him at the Kunlun branch. He questioned Lin Xuan on the nature of Dao, method, and the Jie Sect's mission of “seizing a sliver of survival.” Lin Xuan's answers—especially his view that teaching should cultivate rather than merely eliminate candidates—earned the Sovereign's serious attention. 24 25

He later endorsed Lin Xuan's reforms on Jin'ao Island, granted him access to the third-floor Miscellaneous Arts section of Biyou Palace's Scripture Repository, and allowed him to retain the Azure Pine Sword Seal for self-defense. 29 32
