Chapters 51–75 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51Job Scroll

Lu Cang rescued Loth and Maizer after killing the Blood Origin King alone, then discovered a valuable Job Transfer Secret Scroll among the spoils. Maizer gave the scroll to Lu Cang, though its class remained unknown until appraisal.

  • Lu Cang revived Loth and Maizer with potions, and they learned he had killed the Blood Origin King.
  • Loth and Maizer were shocked that Lu Cang had come alone and defeated the King-tier beast without cutting off its connection to the blood pool.
  • Lu Cang asked Maizer to collect the spoils, and Maizer found armor, five blood beads, and a secret scroll near the throne.
  • Maizer explained the kinds of rare and forbidden classes secret scrolls could contain and estimated that the scroll might be worth hundreds of thousands to hundreds of millions of gold.
  • Maizer resisted his greed and handed the Job Transfer Secret Scroll to Lu Cang.

Ch. 52Someone Had Come Looking

After returning to Rhein Town with Loth and Maizer, Lu Cang earned acclaim for killing the Blood Origin King and held on to its valuable drops. A monocled man repeatedly sought him out, and Lu Cang finally asked him what he wanted.

  • Lu Cang and the others saw the sky turn black and reveal a blue-edged void before the strange phenomenon faded.
  • Loth and Maizer returned safely to Rhein Town, where adventurers marveled that Lu Cang had killed the Blood Origin King without severing its blood pool.
  • Xili valued the Blood Armor and Pure Essence Blood, and Lu Cang decided to keep them for now.
  • Lu Cang refused to meet the monocled man waiting in the guild hall, then earned five gold coins by telling the adventurers about his battle.
  • Lu Cang saw the same monocled man in the hotel lobby and elevator, then asked whether he had been looking for him.

Ch. 53Messe

Lu Cang met the mysterious mage Messe, who offered to teach him a spell that could break the curse preventing him from advancing before age sixteen. Suspicious but tempted by the promise of independence, Lu Cang took Messe’s spell notes and a Job Transfer Secret Scroll, then left the hotel to stay with adventurers while he remained on guard.

  • Messe approached Lu Cang in the hotel lobby and offered to teach him a spell that could break the curse of being watched.
  • Messe explained that Lu Cang’s unusual spirituality made early advancement possible, but only if he escaped the curse before turning sixteen.
  • Lu Cang refused to learn the spell until he could ask Iz, and Messe said meeting Iz would lead to a fight before revealing his name.
  • Messe slipped three incantation notes and a Job Transfer Secret Scroll into Lu Cang’s pocket, then vanished before Lu Cang could question him.
  • Lu Cang asked the receptionist about Messe, then went to the adventurers’ guild to celebrate and avoid sleeping alone at the hotel.

Ch. 54Fortune-Teller

After learning that Messe was dangerous and that his scroll taught the ancient Decipherer profession, Lu Cang learned from Pali that a monster horde was about to invade Rhein Town. Pali urged him to go to the western entrance, and Lu Cang chose to trust her prediction and set out, unaware that she had described his fortune as Supreme Misfortune accompanied by Supreme Auspiciousness.

  • Lu Cang visited Pali to ask about Messe and have a secret scroll appraised, but Pali warned him that Messe was dangerous and told him to forget their meeting.
  • Pali abruptly resigned from her library post and left town with her books, explaining that Lu Cang's scrolls were for a Death Priest and the ancient Decipherer profession.
  • Pali warned Lu Cang that monsters were gathering west of Rhein Town and that the town was about to be invaded.
  • Lu Cang decided to accompany Pali despite fearing for his safety, then asked her to predict his luck.
  • Pali told Lu Cang he faced minor good fortune followed by great misfortune if he stayed, so he chose to go to the western entrance.
  • After Lu Cang left, Pali revealed that his true fortune was Supreme Misfortune accompanied by Supreme Auspiciousness.

Ch. 55The Attack

Lu Cang fought a sudden beast tide attacking Rhein Town, using powerful area magic to tear through the monsters and kill several lords. As other mages joined the defense, a Tier 4 mage’s tornado showed that the town had more formidable magic users than Lu Cang had expected.

  • Lu Cang spotted a vast beast tide outside Rhein Town as alarm bells rang and the town’s residents rushed to prepare for the attack.
  • Lu Cang cast Chain Lightning and Wall of Flame repeatedly, killing monsters by the hundreds and forming a defensive line on the wall.
  • Lu Cang used Earth Fire Collapse Heaven, Life Wind Swarm, and Holy Judgment Crosses to kill the Sharp-toothed Rabbit King, Hundred-Pincer Centipede, and Undead Knight King.
  • Mages arrived on the wall and joined the battle, though their basic attacks seemed weak beside Lu Cang’s magic.
  • A mage wearing a blue wizard’s hat cast a Tier 4 Tornado that lifted and hurled monsters across the battlefield.

Ch. 56Tier 5 Monsters

Lu Cang helped defend Rhein Town from a monster tide, evolving his Chain Lightning and Wall of Flame while killing monsters and supporting the adventurers. When a regenerating Tier 5 War Elephant appeared, level 5 adventurers confronted it, and Lu Cang continued supporting the battle from the city wall.

  • Lu Cang watched a Warrior charge into the monster horde and kill monsters with a flurry of punches and kicks.
  • Lu Cang evolved Chain Lightning into a Tier 2 skill and Wall of Flame into Tier 2 Firewall, then used them to devastate groups of monsters.
  • A Tier 5 War Elephant emerged from the mist, and a level 5 adventurer severed one of its legs, which quickly regenerated.
  • Lu Cang answered the adventurers' call for help and used his spells to kill monsters and support the battle against lord-class monsters.
  • The adventurers praised Lu Cang's strength as he continued defending Rhein Town from atop the city wall.

Ch. 57Sea of Fire

Lu Cang held back the Demonic Tide threatening Rhein Town by evolving Firewall into a vast Sea of Fire, while the battle continued to rage. The chapter ended when an invisible assassin struck at him and his barrier barely stopped the dagger from reaching his eye.

  • Lu Cang asked Pali how long Demonic Tides lasted and learned that some could continue for months.
  • Lu Cang evolved Firewall into Sea of Fire Technique, spreading flames across the ground beyond the city wall.
  • The observer reported that Lu Cang had killed 121,359 monsters, and Lu Cang reassured the Level 4 mage that his mana was fine.
  • The observer warned Lu Cang about an invisible assassin, whose dagger struck his barrier beside his eye.
  • Lu Cang used Repelling Wind Blast.

Ch. 58The Nest

Lu Cang escaped a Level 4 assassin’s attack and helped the nearby Warriors defeat her. When they removed her mask, they discovered she was a Face Worm, and the Warrior concluded the monster tide was an invasion from a nest.

  • A masked Level 4 assassin attacked Lu Cang, but his Protective Barrier gave him time to blast her away and call for help.
  • Lu Cang fled on an ice shuttle and used ice shuttles, wind, walls, and other magic to stall and trap the assassin.
  • The nearby Level 4 Warriors arrived, and one of them fought the weakened assassin while Lu Cang supported him with magic.
  • The Warrior knocked away the assassin’s dagger and captured her, then removed her mask to reveal a face crawling with worms.
  • The Warrior identified her as a Face Worm, killed her, and declared that the monster tide was an invasion from a nest.

Ch. 59The Monarch Horde

After returning to Rhein Town’s west wall, Lu Cang learned that the Demonic Tide might be connected to the Swarm lair and faced a wave of King-tier beasts that appeared to be targeting him. He stayed to defend the town, counting on its protective array and the expected return of Iz and the others.

  • Lu Cang returned to the battlefield, where the Observer watched over him and two Level 3 defenders were assigned to guard him.
  • The Observer explained the legends of the ancient lairs and identified the Face Worms controlling the assassin as possible evidence of an invasion by the Swarm lair.
  • A distant fight between Level 5 adventurers erupted as Cruel Esvalro and other King-tier Demonic Beasts emerged from the forest.
  • The Observer warned Lu Cang that the King-tier beasts seemed to be targeting him, and he tried to flee before learning that Rhein Town had Iz’s protective array and that Iz and the others were expected back.
  • Lu Cang chose to stay and help defend Rhein Town as the Level 4 adventurers engaged the King-tier beasts, leaving thirteen more for the outnumbered defenders to face.

Ch. 60To Stand Against a Thousand

Lu Cang fought off waves of Tier 3 King-tier demonic beasts attacking Rhein Town, killing several while helping the defenders hold the wall. With more beasts still emerging from the distant forest, he asked a Tier 4 mage for advice on his spellcasting, and the mage wondered whether Lu Cang had invented his spells himself.

  • Lu Cang used ice, fire, wind, and stone spells to hinder the King-tier beasts and focus his attacks on the fastest threats.
  • When the Swift Black Bee King reached the wall and gravely injured defenders, Lu Cang slowed and weakened it so the Tier 3 adventurers could kill it.
  • Lu Cang killed the Evil Face Demon Spider Monarch and the Torment Moth, while his spells crippled a centipede-like beast.
  • Two more King-tier demonic beasts emerged from the distant forest as a Tier 4 mage ran out of mana.
  • Lu Cang asked the exhausted mage for spellcasting advice, and the mage asked whether Lu Cang had invented his spells himself.

Ch. 61Self-Created

While fighting King-tier Demonic Beasts, Lu Cang learned how to create spells by adapting casting methods and Root Language, then immediately invented several of his own. He left the mage stunned as his Extreme Cold Ice Lake froze an Eight-legged Flea.

  • A Level 4 mage explained that advancing to Level 4 required creating a spell and suggested adapting existing spells as a starting point.
  • Lu Cang created the Tier 2 Flame Wave Technique during the mage's explanation, but its low level barely hurt an Eight-legged Flea.
  • Lu Cang created Ice Blade and realized his extensive skill proficiency gave him deep knowledge of spell construction.
  • Lu Cang created Flame Wave Technique, Ice Blade, Dark Curse Entanglement, and Extreme Cold Ice Lake in quick succession.
  • Lu Cang cast Extreme Cold Ice Lake beneath a leaping Eight-legged Flea, freezing half its body solid.

Ch. 62Anomaly

Lu Cang fought off powerful Demonic Beasts during the defense of Rhein Town, then learned the town’s formation could suppress them. A badly wounded creature carrying the heads of Tier 5 adventurers appeared inside the formation, and Lu Cang fled.

  • Lu Cang dodged attacks from the Tier 4 King-tier Root-Foot King while the surrounding Demonic Beasts targeted him.
  • As Lu Cang prepared to leave the battlefield, an old voice activated Rhein Town’s Terminating Gravity Field, crushing the Root-Foot King and suppressing beasts within three kilometers of the town.
  • The Observer told Lu Cang that the formation would last an entire day, and he relaxed, believing the danger had passed.
  • A wounded female-looking creature carrying the heads of Tier 5 adventurers entered the gravity field without being crushed.
  • Lu Cang recognized the creature as overwhelmingly dangerous and fled at full speed.

Ch. 63Death Priest

Lu Cang fled from the powerful monster, but she blocked his escape and destroyed his teleportation scroll. After a defender saved him from her attack, Lu Cang reached the center of the magic formation and used the Class Scroll to awaken as a Death Priest.

  • Lu Cang tried to flee the monster, but she appeared in front of him and asked about his connection to Izpalut.
  • The monster attacked Lu Cang, and her strike destroyed his Random Teleport Scroll when he tried to escape.
  • A defender shouted for Lu Cang to run toward the magic formation, then used Defensive Swap to take a deadly attack in his place.
  • The monster killed the defender and decided to capture Lu Cang after attacking the defenders on the city wall.
  • Lu Cang learned the Origin spell and reached the center of the gravity formation with his Class Scroll.
  • Lu Cang activated the scroll, and the Death Priest class awakened within him.

Ch. 64Spiritually Active

After changing into a Death Priest, Lu Cang discovered that his heightened spirituality let him perceive and react to Nie Ye’s attacks, and he used the Substitute Corpse Technique to evade the monster while fighting back. Nie Ye remained largely unharmed and kept pursuing him, leaving Lu Cang trapped in a dangerous battle.

  • Lu Cang changed class to Death Priest, gained the Noble Soul talent and several death spells and specialties, and felt his spirituality surge.
  • Nie Ye attacked Lu Cang, but Lu Cang used Substitute Corpse Technique to switch places with a monster corpse and escape across the battlefield.
  • Lu Cang used ice spells and repeated corpse substitutions to dodge Nie Ye, while his Substitute Corpse Technique rapidly gained proficiency.
  • Lu Cang weakened Nie Ye with a Deep Curse Arrow, but his other attacks barely hurt it, and Nie Ye continued targeting him.

Ch. 65Divine: Noble Soul

Lu Cang used the Death Priest’s Divine: Noble Soul ability to empower his spells with monster souls and weaken Nie Ye. After improving his skills and unlocking a stronger Death Substitute, he trapped Nie Ye in a layered assault and unleashed multiple death spells, leaving the battle unresolved.

  • Lu Cang sacrificed 1,000 souls to strengthen Deep Curse Arrow and struck Nie Ye, worsening its injuries and slowing it down.
  • He spent souls to rapidly raise Corpse Explosion’s proficiency, evolving it into Soul Blast, which blasted a huge crater as Nie Ye dodged.
  • Lu Cang sacrificed souls to improve multiple skills, including Death Substitute, and escaped an incoming attack by switching places with a prepared corpse.
  • When Nie Ye pursued him, Lu Cang lured it into Eternal Frozen Deep Lake and layered curses, a wall, and poisonous vines to restrain it.
  • Lu Cang cast Tragic Soul Death Curse and triple Spirit Explosion, then poured souls into his spells as Nie Ye struggled against the simultaneous assault.

Ch. 66Reversal

Lu Cang battered Nie Ye with spells and soul sacrifices, driving the wounded creature to flee from Rhein Town into the forest. As Nie Ye escaped his reach, Lu Cang prepared to expend all his souls on one final blast, but a red-haired man appeared and told him to leave the rest to him.

  • Lu Cang trapped Nie Ye with coordinated spells and used a 50,000-soul Spirit Blast that left it severely mangled, though still alive.
  • Nie Ye fled, and Lu Cang pursued it with barriers, ice shards, and wind blasts while keeping close enough to use Death Substitute.
  • Nie Ye dodged Lu Cang's attacks and gained speed as it escaped Izpalut's gravity array, widening the distance between them.
  • Lu Cang resolved to sacrifice all 250,000 souls for a Soul Blast to stop Nie Ye from escaping.
  • A red-haired man swept open a path through the forest, appeared ahead of Lu Cang, and told him to leave the rest to him.

Ch. 67Dawn

The Warrior ended the Demonic Tide, and Lu Cang returned to the devastated Rhein Town with Iz and Shi Tou. There, Kumiloni used Life Revival to restore the people who had died, and they began opening their eyes.

  • The Warrior killed Nie Ye with one strike, then swept through the forest and destroyed the demons surrounding Lu Cang.
  • A graceful woman cast Rain of Life over Rhein Town and hurried to the town while Iz and Shi Tou returned to Lu Cang.
  • Lu Cang saw the shattered town and its residents gathering the dead in the road as Kumiloni hurriedly organized them.
  • Kumiloni cast Life Revival, and the corpses and scattered body parts reassembled as the dead opened their eyes.

Ch. 68The Banquet

After Kumiloni resurrected most of the people killed in the beast tide, Lu Cang woke to find a day had passed and learned that Rhein Town regarded him as its savior. He joined the town’s victory banquet, where Chicheng declared that Lu Cang would pay for the drinks and the celebration grew rowdy.

  • Kumiloni resurrected nearly everyone killed in Lu Cang and Nie Ye’s battle, though she could not save those who had been dead too long and reached her limit.
  • Lu Cang woke on September 13, confirmed that his Death Priest class and the previous day’s events had been real, and learned that Kumiloni had found no Spiritual Pollution.
  • Iz told Lu Cang that he had saved Rhein Town from the King of Alien Insects and called him its hero.
  • Iz brought Lu Cang to the Adventurer’s Guild, where Chicheng led a celebration and proclaimed that Lu Cang would pay for the drinks.
  • Chicheng whispered that he would take Lu Cang somewhere nice next time, then began stripping as the banquet grew rowdy.

Ch. 69Harvest

After celebrating the victory in Rhein Town, Lu Cang learned that the recovered spoils were worth over 265,000 gold coins, though the town could pay him only 50,000 immediately. Xili said the remaining payment would take at least three days to arrange.

  • Chicheng bragged about fighting dragons in a dungeon, and Iz argued that Chicheng had been defeated and repeatedly revived.
  • Kumiloni praised Lu Cang for killing the King of Alien Insects at Level 2 and protecting Rhein Town, prompting Iz to acknowledge his achievement.
  • Lu Cang woke after the victory celebration and paid five gold coins for the drinks.
  • Xili gave Lu Cang the spoils inventory, which listed 322,501 monsters killed and a total value of 265,230 gold coins, 52 silver coins, and 11 copper coins.
  • Xili explained that Rhein Town needed at least three days to gather the full payment and gave Lu Cang a ring containing 50,000 gold coins.

Ch. 70The Diviner's Principles

Lu Cang asked Iz about Mece and learned that the man was the infamous mage responsible for sacrificing three billion people, though the Origin Magic he taught Lu Cang was safe to use. Iz also agreed to seek a legal exemption for Lu Cang’s forbidden Death Priest class when they traveled to the kingdom’s capital, and explained how Lu Cang should regard diviners’ uncertain glimpses of the future.

  • Lu Cang accepted his reward and went to Iz to ask about Mece.
  • Iz revealed that Mece was the wanted criminal who had sacrificed three billion people, and assured Lu Cang that Mece’s Origin Magic would not harm him.
  • Lu Cang explained how he had acquired the Death Priest class, and Iz offered to request an exemption for him in the kingdom’s capital.
  • Iz told Lu Cang that the Death Priest class was evil but its power depended on its wielder, and said he believed Lu Cang would use it for good.
  • Lu Cang asked Iz about Pali’s diviner level and what to do when meeting diviners, and Iz advised him to follow his own heart because diviners only saw uncertain fragments of the future.

Ch. 71Hilda |

Lu Cang asked Izpalut for help with Mese and began learning the theory behind creating spells. He thanked Rune for saving his life, invited friends to dinner, and checked in on the people around Rhein Town.

  • Izpalut promised to kill Mese and offered to teach Lu Cang the theoretical knowledge he needed to create more spells.
  • Lu Cang thanked Rune for saving him, gave him forty thousand gold coins and Blood Origin King's Blood Armor, and received a Life Pointer from him.
  • Lu Cang invited Rune, Bais, Akrifa, Loth, and Trand to dinner that evening.
  • Lu Cang delivered Pali's resignation letter to the town chief, who gave him five thousand gold coins' worth of materials for saving Rhein Town.
  • Lu Cang visited Maizer, who had been beaten by his two girlfriends after they discovered he had been seeing both of them.

Ch. 72Fighting Izpalut Again (Part Two)

Lu Cang trained with Iz, learned new spells, and received Iz’s advice to become a Decipherer after reaching Tier 3 as a mage. Their sparring match escalated as Lu Cang used Soul Sacrifice to strengthen his magic, and he ended the chapter preparing to unleash Soul Detonation on Iz.

  • Lu Cang bought gifts for Iz and Kumiloni, commissioned a Blood Revitalizing Potion, stocked up on Random Teleport Scrolls, and found Pali gone from the library.
  • Iz advised Lu Cang to reach Tier 3 as a mage before taking another profession and recommended the Decipherer, whose precepts complemented those of a mage.
  • With Iz’s guidance, Lu Cang created Flame Cover and Shadow Bind and learned eight more spells before Iz challenged him to a sparring match.
  • Lu Cang sacrificed souls to rapidly strengthen his spells and launched a barrage, but Iz countered his attacks and gradually gained the advantage.
  • After Iz trapped Lu Cang with powerful charge pillars, Lu Cang used Soul Sacrifice to enhance Emergent Charge Pillar and then aimed Soul Detonation at Iz.

Ch. 73The Resolve to Transcend

Lu Cang and Izpalut fought across the training ground, matching spell after spell as Lu Cang’s magic control improved. Lu Cang prepared a massive soul blast to overcome Iz’s illusions, but Iz answered with Origin Magic: Void, leaving Kumiloni to raise an emerald barrier as the training ground vanished into black and white.

  • Lu Cang’s soul blast failed to hit Izpalut’s real body, and Izpalut countered with Magic Blast while protecting himself with layers of elemental shields.
  • Lu Cang and Izpalut traded second-tier spells, with Izpalut’s greater skill and growing ability to copy Lu Cang’s spells keeping Lu Cang at a disadvantage.
  • Lu Cang canceled his first soul blast after realizing Izpalut was using a water-mist illusion, then formed a stronger blast fueled by 50,000 souls to cover the training ground.
  • Izpalut praised Lu Cang and revealed Second Tier, Origin Magic, Element—Void, which turned the training ground’s elements into a vacuum.
  • Lu Cang increased his sacrifice to 150,000 souls as his soul blast filled the training ground, and Kumiloni raised a wall of emerald light before the world turned black and white.

Ch. 74The Outcome

After Lu Cang and Izpalut’s destructive spar ended in a draw, Izpalut paid for the damage while rumors spread that she had lost. Lu Cang then gathered the friends who had helped him during the monster tide for a meal.

  • Kumiloni stopped Lu Cang and Izpalut’s spar after their attacks devastated the training grounds, and she declared the fight a draw.
  • Izpalut paid the owner five hundred gold coins and helped fill in the crater, while adventurers in Rhein Town spread conflicting stories about the match.
  • Chicheng visited Izpalut to tease her about the rumors, and she privately concluded that the fight had been a draw, though she wondered how they would fare at equal levels.
  • Lu Cang invited Loth, Trand, Maizer, Rune, Bais, and Akrifa to a restaurant to thank and reconnect with the people who had helped him during the monster tide.

Ch. 75Origin Magic

After the Demonic Tide, Lu Cang and his companions parted ways, and he heard a bard announce a song about him. The next day, Iz explained that Elemental Void was Origin Magic, a spell Lu Cang would have to create himself by seeking to understand the Source.

  • Lu Cang and the adventurers discussed their plans after the Demonic Tide, including Trand’s decision to return to his wife and unborn child.
  • The group shared a meal, exchanged contact information, and went their separate ways.
  • Lu Cang heard a bard finish a song about Iz and the others before announcing “Lu Cang Saves the Town.”
  • The next day, Lu Cang asked Iz to teach him Elemental Void, but Iz said Origin Magic could not be taught.
  • Iz explained that Origin Magic only existed once its creator formed it through personal thought and understanding of the Source.
