Background / History

Han Yuan was an orphan adopted by a Bei Wei royal father. Because of his exceptional talent, the Bei Wei Emperor granted him the title of prince despite his surname differing from the imperial Li family. He possesses Dual Spiritual Roots of Wind and Fire and became renowned as Bei Wei's foremost swordplay genius. At sixteen, he accidentally consumed a Youth Preservation Pill; though physically youthful, he was thirty-seven when introduced to Yi Xiaofeng. 60 63 79

He initially sought to become Bai Hongxiao's disciple. After losing a sword-comprehension contest to Yi Xiaofeng, Bai Hongxiao rejected his plea and rebuked his willingness to die over the rejection. Yi Xiaofeng reframed this as a failure of bearing, prompting Han Yuan to recognize his impatience and kneel to request Yi as his master instead. Bai Hongxiao approved the arrangement and instructed him to remain with Yi Xiaofeng. 61 62

During the struggle at Zhuo Ye Fortress, Han Yuan aligned himself with the Crown Prince and Third Prince rather than the Second Prince. He dismissed royal succession as a concern of mortals and prioritized pursuit of the Dao. 62 63

Han Yuan searched for Yi Xiaofeng after his master's unexplained disappearance, interpreting it as a test. He found him at Black Night Mountain, rescued him from hostile cultivators, and continued following him through successive secret-realm expeditions and sect affairs. 69 76
