Lin Fan was an exhausted office employee living alone in a rented room of less than ten square meters in an old residential complex. Pressured by his project manager and trapped in a demanding “996” work routine, he expected little beyond continued financial and professional struggle. 1 4

Late one night, he found the weakened Tongtian beneath a streetlight. Though Tongtian’s strange speech, ancient clothing, and intimidating bearing alarmed him, Lin Fan chose to provide him food and shelter rather than leave him alone. This decision brought Tongtian into his home and made Lin Fan the first mortal anchor for the displaced Sage. 1 2

Tongtian’s protection against intruding thugs, followed by Nüwa’s arrival, forced Lin Fan to accept that his tenants were genuine Primordial-era beings. He lost his job amid official scrutiny of the household, but Tongtian repaid Lin Fan’s kindness by directing him to a successful stock purchase that doubled his savings. 5 6 9 10

Rather than retreat from the danger surrounding the Sages, Lin Fan chose to follow them actively. Tongtian accepted this resolve and gave him the foundational Heart-Cleansing Mantra and sword-intent seed, beginning Lin Fan’s path of cultivation. 11

As more Primordial beings and outside forces entered his life, Lin Fan developed from a frightened host into the household’s practical center. He managed food, housing, finances, art transactions, external negotiations, and communication with Chen Jing’s authorities. Yuanshi later identified him as a “pivot” between the Primordial Era and the present world. 25 27 30 43

Lin Fan is compassionate and reluctant to abandon people in need. He takes Tongtian home despite the obvious risk, supports the amnesiac gravekeeper with food and lodging, and agrees to help a terminally ill child even while understanding the consequences of exposing Nüwa’s abilities. 1 13 17

Initially anxious, financially strained, and easily overwhelmed by supernatural events, he gradually becomes more resolute.
